The Four Month Obstacle

Jan 28, 2008 15:35

I've recently decided to make the attempt to stop smoking marijuana for the next four months. My goal is to go from Jan 20-Apr 20 without one bowl, bong rip or hit from a joint. I'm not doing this because there was a dramatic impact in my life or me smoking out has hurt anyone, it's more of an experiment. Realizing that this year I turn 26 and I've ( Read more... )

As a sober man, I've learned:

1) I hate people, all the while they fascinate me.
2) My life is as boring as I thought it was, if I make it that way

Really, if you don't enjoy your life sober, you might as well be high. Pot makes you stupid and slows you down, but it eliminates the problems in your life (by helping you forget them) and makes people better (because you are now SO much easier to please).

Living in sober reality is MUCH harder, and, if you come out alright, much more fulfilling. I, overall, am happy with what I'm doing, so my life is cool, sober or high.

My suggestion is do what makes you happy. If you do what makes you happy, there's no need to do things to escape.

That sounds very judging. Not really intending.

Getting laid helps, so does drinking, but I realize that doesn't make it better. I find that being so busy you don't have time to smoke helps. The problem is that it's become a part of your lifestyle, so you still expect it to be there. You'll notice it less in a month. If all else fails, at least you'll get that much higher on April 20th.

Self-examination. I think people do a lot of this shit because they're afraid of who they are. Being comfortable in your own head eliminates the need for distractions along with the boredom that comes when you can't find any. Exploring your own mind is freeing and ultimately makes life more real and enjoyable.

Get a job!

Seriously, having somewhere to be for 8 hours of the day takes out a lot of opportunity to get bored.

I've quit smoking several times in my life. Most recently was about a year and a half ago when I knew I was going to be drug tested for a job. Since then I've taken a puff or two here and there, but haven't really had a desire to get high. Removing this habit has left a huge space in my life for other ventures, and has allowed me to focus on professionalizing myself. Not to mention my level of focus and my overall attitude towards life are vastly improved :)
