These lyrics are inspired by the back-story for one of my students at the school where people are trained in manticism.
Hopefully, the lyrics will somewhat tell the story… at least that was my intention in writing them. They made me cry... but I'm rather sensitive.
A Storm-tossed Sea
Staring at the clear blue sky,
I saw the storm clouds gather.
The wind picks up, the rain pours down,
My sight begins to blurr.
On the sea, between two homes
A little ship is tossed about
The waves crash over the sides
And a family is thrown out.
How was I to know
The truth of what I’d seen?
Too young to see the signs
I thought it just a dream.
Clinging to a plank or board
My cousin will live on
I start to sink below the waves
I’m caught before I’m gone.
How was I to know
The truth of what I’d seen?
Too young to see the signs
I thought it just a dream.
I wake and see the sunshine
No storm, no wind, no rain.
Uncle calls me to the docks
We are going home again.
How was I to know
The truth of what I’d seen?
Too young to see the signs
I thought it just a dream.
Mother, Father, my dear aunt
Do you watch over my life?
Do you know surviving then
Still cuts me like a knife?
How was I to know
The truth of what I’d seen?
Too young to see the signs
I thought it just a dream.
