It’s An Ironic Movie

Once upon a time, phaedra_amunet mentioned what sentimental claptrap the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" is and I begged to differ. I told her I'd make my case. It's probably been about three years since I said that, so I feel the time is finally ripe ( Read more... )

Man, I should have just copied and pasted THAT into my LJ. Not to brag, but I think it's far more snooze-worthy than what I wrote.

Is it that snooze-worthy? I got a copy for xmas and I've only just started reading it.

Also, I have never seen It's a Wonderful Life. And thanks to you, I won't have to! Thanks pita! :)

Actually, I was referring to the Wikipedia post, not the book. Of Ayn Rand's novels, I have only ever read "Atlas Shrugged." It was enough to make me not want to read anything else she wrote. She gives me the same emotions I might get by stepping on a wad of chewing gum on a very hot day.

If you read Ozy's posts, then I am insulted. Or, as Lucy Van Pelt so aptly put it, "I know when I've been insulted! I know when I've been insulted!"

FWIW, George Bailey is essentially one of the subprime lenders so vilified today, and Mr. Potter is one of the careful bank owners who didn't get caught up in this financial mess. Moreover, George Bailey would still have gone to jail over the missing bank funds, even though his friends and relatives helped him pay it back.

I just saw this movie -- for the third time -- on Christmas Eve.

I enjoyed your maxi-review of it as well as your mini-review of Tom Sawyer.

I look forward to your reviews of Miracle on 34th Street and Huckleberry Finn.

"Miracle on 34th Street and the N-Word" and "Huckleberry Finn: Retelling the Story of Jesus" sound like plausible titles, don't you think?

Or, a la what I did up there, "34 Finns: Miracles, Huckleberries, and How Streets are Like Rivers."
