Pay the freakin AIG folks their loot already! If the government suddenlly stripped my pay check for no good reason, I would concider dumping their tea in the harbor.
"no good reason"...uh how about making criminally negligent business decisions that nearly brought down their company, not to mention plung the US economy into recession. I mean it's not even like they're talking about AIG at large, they're talking about AIG's financial services division.
There is no mens rea. They made mistakes. Fire them...oh wait, we don't have anybody else that can do their job.
I don't like the idea of our government going around voiding contracts because the American people are pissed off. If the American people were pissed off that Tom Brady got paid last season although he only played 1 game should the government step in a take his pay checks? Where does this end?
Tom Brady's contract wasn't being paid for by tax dollars because Tom Brady ran the New England Patriots into the ground.
Also the last I heard they weren't going to void the contracts, the were going to amend the tax law to place a 60% tax on bonuses paid to companies that the government has more than a 79% stake in (i.e AIG and only AIG). Add that to the normal local, state and federal taxes and viola money recovered.
