I think you write it in whatever style you feel like. I think I kind of do it in both ways that you describe. In my case, I don't think many or any of the people that read mine actually see me often. A few know it exist so they might be reading it, I don't really know.

In fairness, I was using it to express my unease with being someone who writes these things. As in "could I be said to be part of this terrible thing?" anyway, noted.
