Of Italian, dogs, sausages and the Rolling Stones..

So I've been doing some stuff and resting and failing quite miserably to get much Italian done, that's been the case the last couple of weeks, just not had the right sort of brains, though I did settle down earlier in the week and worked through one of the articles in my Read & Think Italian book, listening to the cd extract several times ( Read more... )

I've loved the Stones since I was about 15 - good choice of music there! I was lucky enough to see them play live many years ago, was about 6 rows from the front!

Oh, lucky you! I'm gobsmacked how much good music I've missed with only hearing the hits, glad to be finally making up for that. Any other albums you'd recommend?

I don't have as much as I'd like, mostly the hits here too - but I love the early flavour of Out of Our Heads.

Technology is really grand, agreed!!!

Wow, it sounds as though you've been really really busy, like a bee trying to get just one more sip of nectar from that fantastic flower that all the other bees are queued up to get sips of themselves! :-)

I still rate one of their later albums 'Under Cover' very highly.

I don't know what phone you have now but there's several apps for language learning that you may find useful. I was looking for an Irish one and managed to even find one for Yiddish! Italian is quite a popular language to learn so there's several options for that (see linky: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=learn+italian&c=apps). I believe the babbel ones are pretty good and I see there's one there for learning through fairy stories which sounds right up your street!

Oh I know, its brilliant what's out there isn't it? I actually have 5 italian apps on the phone right now, two of which I use an awful lot, plus an excellent bilingual dictionary, which is so much quicker than leafing through a print thing :) Did you find a decent one for Irish? I've not seen the fairy stories one though, that *does* sound ideal, will have to go look for that, thankyou :)

I haven't managed to find a great app for Irish yet, they're all a bit hit and miss. For some reason, even the people that have made apps for Yiddish and Tagalog and other more obscure language have not made one for Irish. It's odd. Did you try the fairy stories one? I hope it was as good as it looked!

That's a pain, not as though it's that obscure after all :( And yes, I did find it, and its great, thankyou, especially the ones with audio or video attached, one of them is a story about elephants which takes you to youtube and its a woman doing the story a la Jackanory, but there's subtitles in Italian for everything she says which is *perfect* for me as I don't always catch every spoken word as yet. And so many classic fairy tales there in text form, I've been looking for a decent collection for kindle but this is much better (free too), so really good you spotted that for me! :)
