Fun With DC in Liverpool - Part the Second, Wednesday & Thursday

May 18, 2013 01:47

Wednesday morning started with a text message discussion on where to meet up after several ideas had been mooted the previous evening. DC had read about an independent coffee shop on Bold Street, and there's plenty of good places for food along there so I headed down around lunch time, by taxi this time, the top end of Bold Street is too much ( Read more... )

Love the clarsach.

A friend of ours up in Orkney builds them for a living- can't think of a more wonderful job!

Oh absolutely :) years back, Forest bought me a harp kit one Xmas with the promise he'd help me make it (my woodworking skills are minimal, anything beyond sanding is new territory), never got round to it sadly but would have been lovely. I googled a bit, is that Selkie? I used ot be familiar with most of the harpmakers in the UK, bit out of touch now..

I try and patronise independent places if I can, more so these days when it's all chains. Can't stand Starbucks because their coffee is awful, but I don't mind Costa too much. I only drink black coffee and in most places they make the coffee strong because they expect you're going to put milk in it but both Costa and Caffe Nero will make it with less shots if you ask. And at least they're both English companies although Caffe Nero has been rather naughty these past few years building shops even when denied planning permission and not paying taxes.

Brasco Lounge in your Part One post looks like a very nice place. Although I just checked out the website and they have a live webcam of the people in it! That's a bit worrying if you don't know :-/

I'm glad you're working your way through all the foodie delights that Liverpool has to offer. It gives me some ideas of where I can go next time I'm in the area ;)

I like starbucks strawberrry frappuccuno and the locations of the two I usually use are handy, but yeah, coffee's a bit dire! I only know of 2 independents in liverpool city centre, the other one's somewhere by Dale Street, according to google, might have to check it out if I'm ever round their. The Bold St one made me realise how important things like comfy seats and atmosphere matter though, it had awful crowded seats and tables and was soooo noisy.. so yay on independence etc but boo on the rest, for me! lol No clue what it is about coffee chains and avoiding taxes etc..

Its lovely, was unaware of the webcam, I doubt many people are sad enough to watch it though, or at least not in the daytime.

hee, I shall continue to do my best to provide info and links, there's a Browns opening in Liverpool One soon, never been to one but the menu looks delicious, plus a wee french place up towards the cathedrals does frog legs, wow!
