The
This Is Me Smiling show was totally awesome. They are so good live!
Fortunately, there were not four openers to the show, as had been previously though. There were three, though: The LifeStyle, What Four, and Dialogue. They were all ok, but none of them really struck me. It was apparently What Four's cd release, and they it seems like they brought all their friends to the Metro. There were a ton of shrieking 13 to 15-year olds there. A huge group of them got into line in front of us, so for the first two bands we were kind of off to the side, stage right (though still in the front row). After What Four, however, some of them moved out of the front and we snagged front and center spots, which was nice.
In honor of their first headlining show, TIMS played their entire album, in order. It was pretty awesome. :D They definitely rocked, and every song was great. They also had like seven "media" camera people running around in between the barrier and the stage recording the show (apparently to put on the website?). It was kind of crazy.
aliste and I had been speculating if they were going to have a female vocalist for the female parts of certain songs. They did for Say What You're Gonna Say (Sheldon's girlfriend), but during A Better Way to Fall in Love, Sheldon himself sang in a falsetto. It was fabulous!
For the encore, they played a new song, Ant (?). I didn't really hear the title, but if so that would be great, since it includes references to "going up to capitol hill." ("someday that ant will grow up to be president," anyone?)
I played around with my new razr and took some crappy camera phone pictures and even worse video. In fact, after I watched one video on my computer I didn't bother sending the rest... the sound is just ick, of course. There are two pics of Dan (the lead singer/guitarist)
here (you can see one of the camera man's hands in this one) and
here, though. Oh, camera phone pics. :P
And now I have yet another green-with-white-print band t-shirt. Seriously, I have a Sufjan Stevens, Ok Go and now TIMS that are all nearly the same shade of green with a white design on the front. Crazy!
One last thing: the Metro is smoke free now! I mean, sucks for the smokers, but at least I don't have to worry about whatever I wear there smelling like an ashtray for weeks later, though.
