It seems like I start out most of my show reports this way, but it's so true: the Decemberists did not disappoint at their concert Saturday night. They put on a totally rockin' show as expected, with plenty of audience participation.

they had a hurdy-gurdy )

Nice, I finally let myself read your recap after writing mine. Mine was super-lame though, I just got too tired and forgetful to do a proper one.

Re: Colin's mysterious instrument, there was actually some discussion on the Decemberists forum about it and it turns out it's an Irish bouzouki (bigger even than a mandola and octave mandolin). And somebody posted a link to this delightful article wherein Colin talks about some of his favorite things (including the bouzouki, but my favorite part is when he discusses his favorite video game, or maybe his ringtones). It made me laugh several times, Colin's such a cutie. :P

Aha, that would explain my uncertainty in identifying it. I feel a bit better now; I felt like a delinquent mandolin-player's daughter for not immediately recognizing a mandola. And I don't feel bad for not recognizing it as a bouzouki, even though I spent a quarter in Greece, because it's Irish, which, you know, makes all the difference. :D

And that article is awesome. Dark Castle represent! I love that he says he's looked for it. I also am all for all the Long Winters love going on in there too. Yay favorite bands.
