none of them will laugh

I should write at least a little about this concert before I forget and it lapses into nothing, heh. Anyway, I went with aliste and rosamundeb tonight to see Common Rotation play at the Beat Kitchen. They were the second opening band to some singer songwriter (we didn't stick around for him, though), once again making us ponder if this only happens in Chicago or ( Read more... )

I saw you guys laughing - I think I missed it; what was Eric doing?!

And I have to agree with this: "I was disappointed that it seems that they aren't playing songs from their first album anymore; I really like some of the songs on that album, plus they're more uptempo." The songs on "Isalie" just aren't as "hooky" and sound too similar. I keep thinking that Eric got on a Simon and Garfunkel kick and it's affecting his music too much. Everything is starting to sound like "Scarborough Fair", in terms of the harmony. Not that they sounded bad! They just didn't have the "bounce" I like.

I just saw that Modest Mouse will be playing the Auditorium and tix go on sale this Saturday.

Hey, I was writing Jules, and I remembered this, but I bet I have some of what was said wrong. Do you remember it more clearly? *G*:

"They end a song quite suddenly, and - god, this was funny! - there's some guy in the back talking loudly because of the music who keeps talking into the dead silence for a second or two before he realizes the band's stopped. I laugh, and Adam steps up the microphone, and in fake anger says "That's what you get for talking during the song! See, you did't know the song, so you didn't know when it was going to end - so if you don't know the song, you should listen to it!", and Eric grins and says "Yeah, or you could be saying something like "...so I was laminating my balls..." and have this happen to you!" (or something to that effect) So Adam takes that as a lead-in to "Trumpet" where he says it's a song about having your dick in your hand... only he won't say dick on stage because Common Rotation is one of those bands that believes in euphemisms. *G* "
