The Matrix Reloaded was on TV tonight. This brought the question to my mind... what movies should have had a sequel made, but didn't, and which sequels do you wish had never been made?
Highlander and The Terminator both should never have had sequels made. Each was an example of a perfectly contained story that didn't need any ends tied up or extraneous characters fleshed out and given their own history. By making sequels, each of those movies lost that 'containment' that they had, and the original story was weakened by the following plot.
That's the reason why I will personally kill the idiot who tries to make a sequel to The Princess Bride. Yes, there is this open end, we don't know what happens to the characters next, you could write a sequel (and there's enough fan-fic to prove it) but you don't need to, and any continuation of the story will lessen what we already have (in my view.)
Sequels that should have been made...hmmm. I wouldn't mind seeing History of the World Part 2.
