Well, my week of vacation is over. I managed not to use too much time trying to revamp my classes, which means tomorrow may be more exciting than I'd like. But I think well on my feet, and I do have some ideas about how to tackle persistent problems.
I got some things accomplished that I meant to. For one thing, Ch 12 of "In Loco Parentis", my long stalled Harry Potter fic, has been posted. I don't know if my two betas are LJ followers, but I should mention regardless that I can't thank Lady Whitehound and Betina enough for being willing to take another chance on me and this fic after all this time. Both of them saved me from some serious grammar/ writing errors, but even more they gave me new things to think about, which is one of the chief useful functions of a beta. I even went so far as to rewrite (and discard) another version of Snape meets Voldemort today-- a useful exercise even though I ended up going with what I had and just fixing that (the other added too many things I wasn't prepared to follow up on.)
For another thing, I did a lot of hiking, and came to the realization that I need to schedule these kinds of outings (not wake up and let the mood take me-- because under stress, the mood will have me lying in bed all day....) I also explored some writing venues, including a new favorite that I hope will still be around in November for Nanowrimo. Sadly, the Covington Bean Haus is no more.
Wee Hob is off at the third of his summer camps - Boy Scout camp as a lone scout staying with another troop. I think he will learn a lot and possibly get as enthused about going all the way to Eagle as he is about being in Civil Air Patrol. He wants to go to Ranger school next year and Medic school after that, but he's also just started Color Guard and loves that as well. He marched in the local parade this weekend and was quite pleased with himself. As were his parents.
My beloved has really become a parent over this past couple of years-- in some ways a better one than I. I am so lucky to have him around- and so is Wee Hob.
Oh-- for those who care, the link to the continuation of "In Loco Parentis" is
here.
