Hmm. I say go for fixing the TV yourself; if you get it right, great, and if you don't, you get to get a new TV. Win-win!

Yeah, that's what I'll probably do. The other upside to having a professional fix it is that I could also get the thing properly calibrated and tuned up, which would be nice.

And as much as I'd love to go out and buy a new LED or plasma TV, it's probably just not a good idea. :-)

About the Xbox ...
Doesn't the harddrive hold all your old games? Is it possible to transfer those off?

Yep. You just need a special transfer cable. And then you have to go to the xbox live website and transfer all the licenses to everything you've downloaded over to your new Xbox. It sounds like a pain in the ass, but it's really pretty quick and painless.
