Yes, I am alive!

I thought I'd update and let you all know that I'm alive and well. I've been reading LJ about once a week and kind of keeping up. I've been busy with the boy and hubby, I decided I needed to spend more time with them and less on the computer. It seems to be working out well for all of us. Hubby and I are getting along a lot better than we were ( Read more... )

Glad to know you're alive and well! Hope the job situation becomes clearer, or easier to leave... :-(

Thanks! It is good to hear from you. I hope things are looking up for you, from what I could gather you were going through a tough time. Let me know if I can ever do anything to help.

I know money is money. But I'd love to see your vision of teaching become more known and respected. Is that something you can do from within? Or do you need to be separate from it?

My vision of education is so different than what we do in this country that I don't know that it will ever be more well known or respected. People have been talking and writing about this way of education for well over 30 years. The problem is most people in this country are basically happy with education here. Sure they have complaints, but most agree with the basic structure. They want small changes, like more testing, back to basics, more accountability etc. But they like the set up, not just like, most believe it is the only way to learn. 20-30 kids spending 6 hours a day sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher talk. One of the small publisher's lists I belong to was discussing this today. They'd agree with you. They also inferred that Europe and other countries are ahead of us in education. The trouble is, we're very much into this approach to everything..."The 'expert' imparting their knowledge to the un-educated."

I would still like to see you make a few ripples sometime in this ocean of bad education. Eventually maybe it could be a wave.

I'd like to see it too! I'll keep trying, I've written some essays that I need to clean up and post here. The thing I find sad is how many people homeschool and then do it just like school. To me the whole reason to keep my son out of school is to give him the freedom to find and develop his passions. I truly believe when you are following your passion you can't go wrong. So why would I keep him out of school to just replicate school at home? He still wouldn't have any freedom. This is a strange society we live in.
