Iran and N.Korea

So the NYT has apparently admitted that Iran and North Korea are deadset of obtaining nuclear weapons. and thea diplomacy isnt working THis is old news, at least for korea, but it exposed Iran as the most dnagerous country in the world. Kim Jong might be an absolute nut, but he's surrounded by threeeof the most powerful militaries in the world ( Read more... )

No matter what, though, invasions cost time, energy, and lotsa money. You shouldn't do it without a really good reason for it--hence, the Cold War--so while the ends may justify the means when the US invaded Iraq, it's become blatantly apparent that the next country we invade will have to do a lot worse than having WMD's. No amount of evidence in Iran will be able to convince Congress to give up that kind of money or manpower, not after the hype and let-down that was Iraq. And I doubt Britain will continue to be our ally if we decide to go after Iran.

Basically, what it comes down to is the perception of credibility. Bush may make the case for war against Iran, but I doubt he'll have nearly as much support as he did in the war against Iraq. And in that the President depends on Congress to give permission for fighting battles, I don't think he'll win again--if he's even elected.

Kudos on the whole Saddam thing.

Iran has publically anounced their intention to pursue illegal technologies. If that isnt a smokin gun i dont know what is, but people will still make a fuss about bush lying again.
