So it turns out I misquoted, chavez is claming he won the election, despite exit polling showing he lost by nearly 20 points. Ironically, it appears their touch screen balloting machines were tampered with, but they have paper backups to count. I wish we had those. Jimmy Carter said the election was on the level and Chavez won. If he's wrong I've just lost all trust in Carter, whose record with people like Chavez was always a little shaky.

They looked at the initial totals, and said it looked ok. Now, they want to look at the paper ballots to verify it, but the government is stonewalling. I think that carter is a good guy and a better president than he gets credit for. Every president during the cold war made allies i'm not comfortable with.

Why exactly would they be surprised if there were tampering? Chavez kept screwing with all the petition drives, millions of people stood in lines all around the country only to have Chavez disqualify most of their signatures, so they could stand in line again and sign new petitions... he's a vicious assbag and he really needs to GO.
