On a completely unrelated tangent (bc I have more access to lj than i do aol at this point in time) when do you get back to the Ford? And Have you heard from Jeph?

A more related quick comment: Is Sadr really that hated? I can understand why most people would hate him--it's just bad form to take military action against people who allow you to speak your opinion and won't blow up a religious shrine, when the dictator previous to them would have dropped a bomb on the Najaf shrine without thinking about it, but the guy's gotta have something if people are still signing up to fight for him.

Turkey is getting richer fast. If South korea could forge itself into a first work nation, so can Turkey and eastern europe. You don't even need subsidy money. Foriegn direct investment will eventually work the same miracles its working in costal India and China.

The subsidy money is the biggest reason why they want to join and indeed they are getting richer fast, but only in the urban areas. all the other rural districts will still be elligble for subsidy grants. It's a fault in the system wich can't be fixed now because those who propit from them have the majority of the votes. (and that majority will increase with the inclusion of Turkey) Maybe the country's Europarlementarians would do the right thing but seeing how USA Congress works with all that "pork" I doubt we'll do any better.
