CHARACTER
NAME: Tyki Mikk
AGE: 26
GENDER: Male
ROLE IN CANON: Antagonist
FANDOM: D.Gray-Man
FANDOM MEDIUM: Manga/Anime
TIMELINE PERIOD: Around chapter 158 - after it's been confirmed that he's alive and (mostly) sane.
ABILITIES: Tyki is stronger and faster than an average human, imbued with abilities in his genetics that surpass those of everyday people. He's of above-average intelligence, for the most part, but usually chooses not to take advantage of it (since it makes him look like a bad hobo). He's also an amazing poker player, although this may be mostly attributed to cheating. He has three very powerful Noah-related abilities, none of which will be kept at his arrival to St. Edelweiss but which I'm listing anyway:
Incorporeality - Tyki can make his body incorporeal and choose to touch only what he wants. This allows him to walk on water or air, pass through solid substances, avoid most damage, and take things that are otherwise protected. For example: he can reach into someone's body, take hold of an internal organ, and remove it. The only exception to this ability is an Exorcist's Innocence.
Tease - Tease are small, butterfly-shaped golems that live inside Tyki's body. A gift from the Earl, Tyki can control these golems and typically uses them to attack and devour people whole. They are bloodthirsty, flesh-eating creatures that burrow into a person's body and either devour them from inside out or explode outwards, killing the person instantly. By devouring people, they tend to grow in number.
Black Knight/"Tentacles" - as of being completely devoured by his Noah, Tyki has gained the ability to take on the form of a demonic knight and attack with extremely powerful appendages that come out of his back. These "tentacles", as they're probably best described, can tear people to shreds in an instant, as well as protect him from attacks.
CHARACTER HISTORY: Nobody knows Tyki's early life, and if he remembers it, he's not telling. It's assumed that he was born somewhere in Portugal, possibly to at least a remotely higher-social class family (if Sheryl is any indication and is indeed his older brother, instead of it just being a Noah-family thing), and eventually discarded that high life and became a wandering worker, taking up jobs wherever he could. (If I'm wrong, and Sheryl is only his older brother by Noah connection, then Tyki was probably born into poverty and just kept his hobo status from that.) At some point, the inscriptions on his genes woke up and he became a Noah, taking on the memories of "Pleasure". The Millenium Earl came for him then, officially inducting him into the ranks of the Noah, where he learned of his destiny to help lead the world into its second stage as one of God's elite chosen. Yet despite this, he retained much of his former hobo self, leading to a split in his personality that he's fully aware of: the significantly friendlier, more amiable hobo half, and the charismatic, refined gentleman half - the latter of which is the persona he takes on when fulfilling his duties as a Noah among society. There was also the creation of his sadistic, truly depraved Noah side, usually in combination with his gentlemanly half, which he uses whenever fulfilling his duties to the Earl.
Regardless of where he came from, Tyki became a Noah, and has since then retained both his Noah and wandering hobo tendencies (but has been noted to repress his Noah side through force of will unless necessary). For some time he alternately followed the Earl's orders and spent time riding the rails, looking for work among a group of human friends. He came to the light of the Black Order when he attacked and fatally wounded General Kevin Yeegar and six other exorcists in short order, driving one exorcist to "fall" after extorting information out of him, and then using that information to slaughter over 100 of the Black Order's subordinates, all on the Earl's order to erase a number of people who stood in the way of their future. He was tracked down by Allen Walker and they began to fight, Allen infuriated with Tyki's actions and Tyki noting that Allen was on his list of people to destroy. This battle resulted in Tyki winning and shattering Allen's Innocence, then having one of his Tease tear a hole in Allen's heart. Surprisingly, Allen managed to survive this attack, although Tyki didn't learn this until some time later.
They met again on the Ark as it was crumbling to pieces. Tyki waited on one of the upper floors and once again did battle with Allen. After some time and no small amount of goading leading to anger, he enclosed Allen in a tiny, airless, crushing space, but Allen broke out of it and retreived a massive blade from his regained Innocence. He used this blade to attack Tyki, and in the end, attempted to exorcise the Noah from Tyki, but this abruptly backfired and resulted in the Noah completely consuming Tyki. Berserk and at the behest of an evil few people could fully comprehend, Tyki nearly slaughtered all of the intruding exorcists but was stopped when General Cross Marian interfered. Tyki was badly defeated, and for a while, people presumed he was dead. However, he had survived, and after a period of silence re-emerged in the upper echelons of society. His Noah capabilities had changed, with the holy marks on his forehead having vanished and re-emerged as a single mark at the base of his neck. Now he waits in silence with the Millenium Earl and the other Noah, prepared to strike out against the Black Order again when the time comes.
CHARACTER PERSONALITY: Tyki has two personalities he splits between, labeled 'white' and 'black'. While in his white personality, he tends to be fairly laid-back and difficult to anger. Among friends, he's casual, carefree, and surprisingly generous, but he's also unintentionally low-brow and considerably coarse. In addition, he's something of an excellent poker player (although that can be attributed to some level of cheating).
His black personality is used when representing the Noah among high society, and is also the half of his personality that he formerly had to repress through force of will. Using this personality, he can be courteous, aristocratic, and gentlemanly: the complete opposite of his white (or hobo) lifestyle. This doesn't stop him from being blunt, though, particularly among the other Noah. He can also be significantly more sadistic and violent while in his black personality: using his Tease to destroy people, removing internal organs, taunting people as they die, and essentially become a cruel, unstoppable, and bloodthirsty human. This is the side he takes when he fights or follows the Earl's orders. He can easily use either his white or black personalities to gain the trust of the people around him, but the white personality, being the most dominant and amicable, is more likely to earn it.
Then there is his true Noah side, a recently developed phenomenon that has come into being only since his defeat on the Ark. When faced with a battle he cannot win or upon taking critical amounts of damage, Tyki reverts into a sort of black knight, unable to speak and only focused on slaughtering his enemies. This is when he is the most dangerous, although not necessarily the most cruel. He's almost like an animal in this personality, utterly unresponsive to outside stimuli and devoted only to single-minded destruction.
HOW IS THIS CHARACTER APPROPRIATE FOR THIS SETTING: D.Gray-Man is a fairly dark series to begin with, dealing with death, souls, and demons, and Tyki is part of the antagonists, whose entire goal is to produce as much pain and suffering as possible. He has no problems with torture and murder, carrying them out himself on a regular basis, and given that the setting of St. Edelweiss is surprisingly similar to parts of the world he lives in, he'll hardly think twice about the way the asylum treats its patients.
WHAT WILL THEIR DIAGNOSIS BE: Due to having two fairly different personalities stuck to him at any given time, Tyki would most likely fall under the diagnosis of Dissasociative Identity Disorder. While he doesn't black out when he moves between them and is fully aware of them regardless of which he chooses to use, they are still very different identities. The dominant one is his white (hobo) side, although he does use the black (gentleman) side alternately given the situation and his desire to manipulate or befriend people. The likelihood of him choosing one over the other is based mostly on his mood (he's more likely to take advantage of the more positive aspects of his black side if he's in a good mood). The true Noah side is rare to surface, and so isn't included as an official third. Whenever driven to the point of true Noah, Tyki may become depersonalized and recall his actions later as if he were not the one who carried them out.
He may also suffer from depression over the facts that he A) is no longer among his close human friends or Noah family and B) no longer has access to cigarettes.
PREDICTED PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS: Some anger and depression at being uprooted and planted in a new situation with no powers and no family/cigarettes. Being as calm as he is, Tyki won't react badly initially, although he will deny anybody saying that his past and those he knows are lies. Given time and experimentation, greater anger and a lot of violence will probably erupt, resulting in him going from the first danger level to the second.
PREDICTED BEHAVIOR/PLANS: His entire intention will be to leave, since he has work to do and people to find. Given the presence of other DGM characters, he'll also spend quite a bit of time randomly antagonizing them. He'll also attempt to befriend at least a few people to use as a way out, but if he spends enough time around them (especially if he's predominantly in his hobo personality) he may genuinely come to care about them. Over time, as he realizes that getting out is not going to be as easy as he hoped and intended, he'll start to get angrier and fall into his black personality more and more, possibly resulting in quite a bit of injury, damage, and even death.
DANGER LEVEL: 1 (for now)
