A.N. :
This should’ve been
miyamiaki’s Christmas present, but …I’m late. AS HELL. T^T My internet connection's at fault too, it's been so hard to OL since the earthquake in Taiwan (hopes the fiber optics are fixed soon). Sorry~~~~~, I hope you’ll like this (and won’t kill me for being not punctual >.<) Oh and don’t worry about the beginning part, I’ll still make Kame a ********** as you wish XD
All my past life is mine no more;
The flying hours are gone,
Like transitory dreams given o’er
Whose images are kept in store
By memory alone.
- 1st couplet of “Love and Life”
by John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester
Akanishi Jin. Now, who was unfamiliar with that name? Every students in the college knew right that the name could only describe the sexiest, most gorgeous, most popular boy in college. Being the school’s band vocalist and all, he’s always being the center of attention. He was never spotted alone-always surrounded by his friends/fans. Glimpse and spotlight were the two things revolved around his world.
Fame and prosperity bestowed him everything he ever needed. He could pick any chicks around the area 24/7 if he’d want to, he could buy anything he wanted, and everybody loved him-his life seemed to be perfect. Too perfect perhaps, that his superiorities had wrought his character to be a persistent man; he must have everything his heart desired.
Meaning : when he laid his interest on something-or perhaps someone-he’d do everything to obtain it.
And he’s interested in his own kouhai, named Kamenashi Kazuya.
Correction : he’s interested in tormenting the said kouhai.
Kamenashi Kazuya was one of the normal-est guy Jin had ever met in his life. Too normal perhaps, that sometimes he considered him boring. However, unlike the rest of the students, this kouhai never seemed to set any interest in him. The younger boy never cared of Jin’s very existence and always spent his time with books, books, and books. Somehow, Jin had found it unacceptable and disgraceful that someone would actually think books were more attractive than him.
So Jin had decided to pick on him a little.
Yes, it was perfect. He was heading to the library, where this bookworm kouhai of his resided most of times, to taught him a little lesson that an Akanishi Jin should not be ignored by every single living things in the college.
‘Ah, there he is,’ Jin taught as he smiled wickedly, ‘sitting naively unaware of the doom he’s about to suffer.’ Then took a thick encyclopedia from the bookshelf where almost no one ever touched it, to make sure it’s completely dusty and all, before walking all snobby to Kazuya’s desk…
…and he tossed it with a loud ‘thud’ onto the said desk right in front of Kazuya, making its dust flew all around and choked the other boy. Kazuya coughed heavily.
The evil genius smiled proudly, “Oh, I’m sorry, that was totally unintentional.”
Kazuya lift his head up to see his offender and snorted when he saw the one person he had listed to his ‘people-I-PROBABLY-hate-most’ list staring at him with a stupid smirk on his face.
Kazuya smiled grudgingly and said, “Ah. You. What a surprise. Never thought someone like you would ever know where the library’s located,” before turning his attention back to the book he was reading.
Jin clicked his tongue and leaned forward, “Hey little freshman, do you realize who you’re talking to?”
“I think you should keep your voice down in the library,” was the only reply coming from Kazuya.
“Come again!?”
“Oh, my apologies. Never been to a library before?”
“How dare you-”
“Silence, Akanishi-kun!! Remember where you are right now!!” the scary librarian scolded from afar, making Jin winced.
Kazuya sighed, “Told you so,” then he stood up and began to leave. Furious by such cocky attitude, Jin strolled to block him.
“Freshman, I can see you’ve got some guts up your sleeve. But have you no etiquette, talking in such style to your own senior? Such behavior is not acceptable, for your information, especially coming from lower classmen. And I can assure you well that no such freshmen have been able to survive their college life if-”
“Oh goody. Akanishi-senpai’s here to lecture me,” Kazuya interfered in mock defense, “now if you’d excuse me, I have better things to do.” He said as he passed the blocking creature while noting to self to add Jin’ to the top of his ‘10-people-I-hate-most’ list.
“Ah. So you’ve chosen to ignore my elucidation of your only chance to survive your college life?”
“I think I’d rather survive this day by ignoring your so-called elucidation. I won’t risk my life and die from the tedium you’re providing, thank you,” said Kazuya as he left the room for goodness sake.
Jin gaped, “What- DAMMIT!!!”
“AKANISHI-KUN!! SHUT UP!!!”
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Kamenashi Kazuya hated Akanishi Jin, a guy who was such a diva and always wanted to be on the spotlight-a spoiled brat who’s always bathed in fame and luxury. Such egoistic man could never understand the meaning of hard work, the feeling of tormented, nor could he ever considerate to others’ sentiments. Such type of guy was the one Kazuya avoided most. He knew right from the start, that mingling with such people would only bring detriments sooner or later.
And never once in his dreams that the last guy he’d ever want to see came to him only to ruin his mood. Not that his mood had been fine to start with. Alas, somehow he guessed it would not happen only once. The man would come again and again, bringing more headaches and problems for him.
…He hated it when his prediction was correct.
“Hello, jerk,” said the nauseatingly familiar voice.
“Hello, dumbass,” Kazuya replied without even bother to look up. His book was certainly more interesting than the guy standing next to him, or so he thought.
Irritated, Jin snatched the book away, “Still haven’t learnt your lesson well, freshman? Or should I teach you obedience my way?”
“I was trying to recollect today’s lesson if you didn’t snatch my book away,” Kazuya stood up and stared at the other’s eyes with a sharp, offending look.
“Are you trying to pick a fight?”
“Well, are you?” Kazuya asked in return and Jin could only narrow his eyes into slits. No one ever tried to mess with his temper. This kid was going a little too far, he thought. But being a cool guy he was-or supposed to, Jin inhaled a deep breath and calmed himself down. He would not let this stupid brat made him lose his cool. Jin opened the book in his hand and read the name written on it aloud.
“Kamenashi Kazuya? Though I personally think this name’s too good for someone like you,” then he tossed the book to its owner’s hands and was ready to depart, “but I’ll certainly remember that name, Kamex.”
The brunette twitched. “What did you just call me?”
“What? I think that name suits you better” Jin replied, trying his best to put on an innocent look as he tiptoed along, leaving, “sounds like a nerdy character’s name from Star Trek, don’t you think?” He finished with a wide grin, and the next second he had to dodge the book Kazuya threw directly to his face before leaving his kouhai in a satisfied mood.
Oh boy, it was going to be fun.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Kazuya was almost getting used to Jin coming out of nowhere all the time for the past five weeks to ruin his mood. ALMOST. It took all his will power not to jump Jin in the middle of the students’ hall and started to suffocate him to death. But no, that would be the last thing he did or else the school would revoke the scholarship given for any misbehaviors. No, he needed to have the scholarship more than anything-that was what it takes for a pauper like him to keep on going to school. Although he was not as poor as anyone would ever judge him to be, yet, he needed to be as thrift as he could to survive.
Maybe that was why he had no friend in college. Obsessed by books all the time, he had no time to socialize well. His teenage life was filled with books and work.
Ah, yes, and mainly work.
Work…That reminds me, I’ll have to work again tonight…
Kazuya laid himself on the soft grass, staring distantly at the blue sky above, treasuring the comforting sight as much as he could because only in the count of hours, he’d have to face a sickening sight of working.
It was supposed to be a peaceful moment before Jin’s head appeared upside down as he shouted ‘Boo!’ at him. Kazuya, being a jumpy guy he was, was shocked that he impulsively sat up almost immediately, resulting in knocking his temple to Jin’s, hard.
“Ooouuuuccchhh…” Jin massaged his aching forehead, shouting, “It really hurts, you idiot!”
Kazuya, suffering from the same pain, snapped back at him, “You are the idiot! Startling people out of the blue-and what is your head made of, bricks? No wonder.” He trailed off with a snort, pissed off.
“Tch. Is that how you show your gratitude? You have a weird way of showing it.”
“Gratitude for what? Shocking me out of the blue?”
Jin clicked his tongue in mock defense, “No, for this,” and handed him a ticket. Kazuya took the piece of paper and read it thoroughly.
“A ticket for Star Night Festival? Are you trying to tell me something?” Kazuya asked in curiosity, waving the said ticket in front of his senpai’s face.
“It’s the ticket for our school’s big event and I thought being an anti-social person you are, the possibility of you attending it is almost…none. Which I think I’m correct,” Jin muttered, proud of his so-called observation about the other boy, “And so here I am, kind-heartedly giving you a ticket for the festival so you won’t spend tomorrow’s night with books, forever your lovers.”
Again, Kazuya eyed him curiously, “Ok, what are you implying? Spill the beans out.” Surely there was no way he would do something as generous without implying on anything fishy.
“What? I’m just trying to be a good senpai…besides, I’m performing in it.”
“So basically you want to show off?” Kazuya said cynically as he folded his arms, not giving in.
“Why are you so persistent?” Jin shrugged, more than a little pissed off, “just promise me you’ll be there, ok?”
Kazuya stared at the ticket in his hand, then at Jin’s eyes, back to the ticket, and then at Jin’s eyes once again for longer seconds, before sighing in exasperation and nodded. “If you insist.”
Jin beamed widely and said, “I’ll perform at 7, tomorrow night. Come and see me or you’ll miss the party!” before leaving once again, for good.
Taking one last glance at the ticket, Kazuya sighed once more. He did not attend festivals and parties-he did not have the time. Due to the ticket he got for free, or due to Jin being the one who gave him the pass, he wasn’t sure why. But then again, he wouldn’t mind trying to come for once.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Six-fifty. Jin would be performing in ten minutes, but he didn’t feel nervous at all. In fact, he was inquisitive of Kazuya’s attendance. Peeking through the stage’s curtain, he scanned the dim room seeking any creature that could only be identified as Kazuya. Finally he found one, standing idly against the wall, looking bored. Jin smirked evocatively and glanced at his watch once more. It was six-fifty five.
Five more minutes to your worst nightmare…
And minutes later, the stage curtain was raised.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
The stage curtain was raised. ‘Ah, finally,’ Kazuya thought. He was sure he was about to leave the cold, brain-racking, noisy hall, good thing they raised the curtain in time. Standing all mighty on the stage was that aggravating guy named Akanishi Jin, holding the microphone stand firmly with his band members on their positions, ready to start the party.
The crowd cheered their names (although Jin’s name was the loudest one) until Jin put a finger on his lips, shutting them wordlessly. But a second later his legendary smirk emerged as the music was played, and the crowd roared mindlessly when Jin began to sing.
Kazuya was mesmerized at the stunning figure on stage. Although his arrogance was still visible on his attractive face, he was a different person with the one Kazuya thought he had always knew. He was soulful, passionate, and strikingly awesome. And although it was hard to admit, Jin sure had an amazing voice.
Kazuya smirked indolently at the guy and murmured, “You big dumb boaster.”
When the band was about to play their fourth song, Jin suddenly hold them and informed the crowd, “Before we start with our forth song, I’ll introduce someone special who’s going to perform for us on the stage.” And at the mention of ‘someone special’, Jin’s aimed his sight to Kazuya, smirking evilly once again.
Kazuya shivered and his human instinct sensed danger. He rushed to the exit impulsively, but he was too late.
“Please welcome our special guest of the day, Kamenashi Kazuya!”
Shit.
“What are you waiting for, boy? Step up to the stage,” said Jin, smiling proudly at his win while sending him a ‘you are so dead’ look. Then he signaled the crew to turn the spotlight at his prey, cornering him.
Shit. Again.
Left with no other options, Kazuya walked towards the stage while glaring daggers at Jin. When he was finally on stage, Jin handed him the microphone, still smirking in triumph and Kazuya grabbed it angrily. So that was what makes the previous offer sounded fishy. It was a trap.
“You may ask the band to play any songs you’d like to sing,” Jin whispered, “that is, if you can sing.”
Kazuya threw him another homicidal look before turning to the crowd.
Then he started to panic. A little.
Shit. I can’t sing and I know nothing about songs. Screw Jin. He’s still a bastard and he’ll always will.
While Kazuya was still thinking of a song-while cursing Jin endlessly, the crowd started to protest and telling him to get off the stage.
Kazuya started to panic even more. Then he took a glance at Jin who only smiled in content at his suffering.
Tch, I won’t lose to him. There’s got to be at least one song I can remember!
“You said I can ask the band to sing whatever I want, right?” he turned to Jin, and was slightly delighted that the other didn’t call off on his own words, “So be it.”
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
The music was played once again, and Jin couldn’t feel any happier than that. He had planned it for days to win this little game of two. Kazuya would finally treat him with respect once this sweet torture of his ended. It was perfect…
…before Jin’s trains of thought was interfered by the sound of crowds’ cheering.
‘What are they cheering on?’ he thought, before averting his eyes to Kazuya, who was singing with poise in the spotlight. Jin gawked; it was his turn to be mesmerized. So his little kouhai can actually sing well. More than well, perhaps, although he was sure he sang better than Kazuya, but Kazuya indeed had a great voice.
No, wait, that wasn’t the plan. The plan was to humiliate Kazuya and make him realize he had been a disobedient kouhai all along, not the contrary!
Suddenly Kazuya turned to Jin with a victorious glints in his eyes, staring at Jin with a ‘who’s laughing now?’ look, and it upset Jin. He hastily grabbed another microphone nearby and walked to face Kazuya. It was time for duel.
Hearing Jin’s vocal mixing with his all of a sudden, Kazuya took the hint and stared back at Jin. He wasn’t going to back out.
So they sang. Together at first, then by turns, and then together again on the chorus. It was strange-although they had meant it to be a duel, their singing reached a perfect harmony when combined and they enjoyed it. Both Jin and Kazuya never felt as contemplative before. It was exciting, and it was undeniably a good feeling. It was the moment when Kazuya could enjoy life.
And the crowd roared on fire.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
“Why didn’t you tell me you can sing?” Jin asked Kazuya who was having a hard time trying to open his bottle of water before Jin took it off the smaller boy’s hands, opened it, and handed it back to Kazuya.
Muttering a soft ‘thank you’, Kazuya gulped the cold liquid before answering, “And why should I told you that? I don’t even know I can sing.”
Jin snorted, “Don’t joke around, will you? Your voice was not bad…though I personally think you still have a lot to learn before trying to challenge me.”
Kazuya rolled his eyes while murmuring ‘who challenged me first?’. Suddenly his mobile rang before Kazuya picked it up and read the received message meticulously with a solemn face. Then he declared that he had work to do, thus he had to leave immediately.
When he was about to reach the exit, Kazuya stopped on his track and turned to face Jin, “Almost forgot. Thanks for tonight, Jin. Although I should kill you for trying to disgrace me, but it turned out great. Thanks.” As he formed a small genuine smile, bid him goodbye, and left through the door.
As for Jin, he should be sulking for his plan was ruined. But all thoughts of brooding and barking had left his mind once he saw that enticing sweet smile of Kazuya. And at the thought of their previous duets. Jin did not even care that his plan failed.
Somehow, Jin felt he could sleep assured that night.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Hurts…
The next morning should be another fine day, but not for Kazuya who was walking all wobbly down the deserted hall aimlessly. His visions were blurred, his whole body felt numb, and he felt butterflies swirling around in his stomach.
It hurts…
He didn’t care where his legs took him to anymore. As soon as he spotted a restroom, his legs walked to it even before he realized. Not that he cared, anyway. He was fed up. He was disgusted. He was hurt. And he just wanted to threw up.
I’m hurting…
“Ohayou, Kamex,” suddenly a familiar voice chirped in, “it was easy to recognize you from afar, wearing that worn-out clothing and all…hell, don’t you ever get changed? You’re going to lose your fans...Do you want me to teach you how to dress?” Jin asked teasingly with that legendary smirk of his on his face.
But Kazuya remained mute and motionless.
“Hey, Kamex, do you not hear me?” Jin said in a snobby pitch, as he stood lazily with arms akimbo. “You’ve grown much more annoying than you used to be, you know that? I know you can hear me~”
Still hearing no response from Kazuya, anxiousness hit Jin slightly.
“…Kamex?” Jin approached the younger boy tentatively, wishing the boy would snap at him like he had always do.
“Go away, Jin…Leave me alone.” Kazuya finally replied, oddly with trembling voice, “I’m not in the mood for this.”
Jin sensed something wrong and decided not to leave him. He took another step forward, and another, and another, until he was less than a meter away from Kazuya. Jin grabbed the boy’s shoulder gently and spun Kazuya around to face him.
“God, Kame…what happened to you?”
It was horrible. His hair was a mess and he looked so broken. Purple, nasty bruises tinted the corner of his lips, his cheek, his long pale neck, and ostensibly other parts of his fragile body that was covered by the messy clothes he wore. His red alluring lips was now cracked and cut; showing a dark shade of angry red which could only be identified as blood, just like the skin on his high cheekbone. And his deep, dazzling, dark orbs were all swelling and puffy, possibly from excessive crying.
“Why are you still here?” Kazuya asked between subtle sobs, “I’ve told you to be gone,” as he tried to turn away, hiding his face.
Jin was speechless. And strangely in pain.
It was painful to see him like this.
Reflexively, he circled his arms around his kouhai, hugging him tightly.
“What are you doing?” Kazuya asked once more after he regained his senses. It was erratic; everything was erratic. “Stop, let me go!” he tried to push him away, hit the surrounding arms frantically, but it was a futile effort.
“Did you not hear me? Let go!” his frenzied hits were slowing down, he couldn’t take it any longer, “Please, just let me go…”
“No, I won’t…” Jin closed his eyes in tranquility, “I won’t leave you, Kazuya. Not when you’re like this. I don’t want to act as if I don’t give a damn about this, because I care about you, Kazuya…”
“I…care about you…And I’m here for you now.”
Kazuya felt trains of emotions rushing into him as those final words escaped Jin’s lips. Fresh tears streamed his porcelain cheeks, finally not able to confine much longer. He cried and cried aloud, immersing himself deeper into Jin’s embrace and clung to him tighter while the other fondled his head, trying to soothe him.
Jin’s heart ached.
“No, don’t cry…”
It ached so much.
“Please don’t cry ever again…”
It really hurt to see him crying.
“I’ll always be here for you…”
-In the first place, I don’t cry.
And if I did, I certainly couldn’t cry it out.
And if I could, the last place I should choose
Would be your shirt-front
Or your manly bosom either.

To be continued~
Phew that was a long chapter >.< Is it just me or it’s true that Jin’s similar to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast while Kame’s much like Belle?? O_o;; And about the name Kamex (which I’m trying so hard to convince myself that the name does NOT sound like one of the local condom brand >.<)…I remember Kame said he has the name Kamex as one of his nicknames. That’s where the idea sunk in ^^ Anyway I didn’t plan on writing multi-chaptered fics...it just became longer than I’ve expected >.< So I had to cut it into few parts…
Writing some scenes while listening to Kanjani’s Naniwa Iroha Bushi and Jin&Ueda’s Butterfly is difficult… >.<
Almost forgot. Feedbacks feed me. Yes I’m a comment whore XD Should I continue this crappiness? (And is it progressing a little too fast? O_o;;)
Anyway. HAPPY BELATED CHRISTMAS + NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!! XDDD
P.S.: Anyone care to guess what song Kame-chan was singing? ^^
