Forgive my American ignorance. (Or if this has been asked before)

But, what does the red circle thing that coaches and announcers (mostly Canadian, but I've seen some US based coaches/announcers) wear on their jackets represent?

It's a Poppy, to honor veterans.

(for Remembrance Day - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_Day )

Thank you. I figured it honored some group, but had no idea who.

Funny story about our 'red circle' ~ few years ago we issued a quarter with the poppy on it and had the poppy coloured in (red). It was the first coloured coin in the world. Someone flew down to the States with one in their pocket, but security stopped them and found the red quarter. Homeland Security thought it was some kind of terrorist or spy device and started to raise all mighty hell over this evil Canadian quarter before our government set them straight LOL.

:D good you asked!
