Recap
Since everybody and their dog are now using facebook instead of lj, this may or may not be my final post here
So, to recap the last few months:
- in may went to do my guy vacation, saw tons of bunkers in Normandy. Awesome. Exhausting.
- following that went with Tia to Romania to see Draculas castles and shit. Wonderful trip, saw tons of stuff, friendly people, very reasonably priced, we liked it.
-went to three model plane festivals, two in summer, one in fall. First one in summer was great, I even was shown with two of my planes in a RC magazine. Yay! Second one was also great, weather only good on one of the two days, but much fun and a great audience. I broke my new EDF jet there due to stupidity. Fixed it a week later. Damn. Third one in fall was decent, I won a pretty cool plane but due to not enough space at home I sold it unopened. Sniff.
- in summer we went to the north sea coast with my family. Was fun, exceöt that we got sick on day two, so I felt pretty miserable. Damn.
- did (maybe for the last time) organize this years Junien, probably the last sold-out 600+ attendee lanparty left in germany. The partys are dying out fast now and I have to admit: Its still fun, but organizing was stressful and not too great and the audience did not appreciate that I took over some of the moderation of the shows. So: Fuck them. Maybe in 2010 I will only attend it as a gueat but not organize it anymore. A day less away from home, much cheaper for me, less stupid discussions with the team beforehand and someone else can get the flak for being hard to understand with a megaphone.
- went to a mini vacation with Tia for wine testing in southern germany, staying overnight at a cute vineyard. Yummy wine, saw the vineyards huge barrels, it was great. Also picked up presents in Rothenburg and saw a cool museum there, nice.
- was put on short time work this year, first time in my life. Was not as bad as I thought, in the end even in the worst months I had more then I earned five years ago starting here. Most of the time I had about what I earned just last winter before my last raise. So.... lots of mostly paid free time. but also a lot of stress. My interest in doing IT admin stuff is ever diminishing, looking for a different job was a mess thoug this year until the very end where i was approached internally for one in France (bah!), externally in Swiss (meh.) and I try to get a job in Bielefeld. For the last time with Parker. Iffy.
- I increased my model plane fleet from last year drastically, but also got rid of some. Last year: - 2 Silverlits, AirAce B17, Easystar, Twinstar, PiccoZ and around new years i bought the Twister EDF jet. This year: Easystar, Twinstar2, Minimag, Twister, EF16, P51 Mustang, PiccoZ, Lama V4 heli and a MPX Cargo. The cargo is not done yet, but will be shortly. In the works is a HK450 heli and probably a MPX gemini biplane. Lost a Twister this year (glitches caused two bad crashes, last one killed the fan unit) and a EF2000 jet (used a weak battery so it never flew long, damn. Completely my fault). Other then that I crashed the EF16 on its maiden flight and once more landed in a rough fieldm its material just sucks. Transitioned (now complete) from 35Mhz to 2,4Ghz, reducing glitsches from 1-3 per flight to maybe one in four weeks.
- went on winter vacation in Austin, TX. Nice, mostly relaxing just traveling was shit. Took us 36 hours almost to get there due to a sick person on the first leg and then a massive delay for the second one.
All in all:
Nice year, had only once to deal with my butt problem. And that was gone after 4-5 days. We will see how 2010 turns out. Still no moon base, as far as i know.
