Character

Name: Brendan.
Fandom: Pokémon (Gameverse).
Gender: Male.
Age: THIS IS HARD. LET'S JUST SAY 10-15.
Time Period: After beating Steven in an arduous battle at Meteor Falls!
Wing Color: Ruby red (#9B111E)
History: Thank you Bulbapedia! While he's a silent PC, I'll be trying to work out a personality based on his NPC dialogue as a rival.
Personality:

So, an ego! Brendan definitely has one. This is the kid who, upon moving to a brand-new region he knew nothing about, decided I'VE GOT THIS GUYS DON'T WORRY. Honestly, accepting help from his neighbour? Especially when they're a girl? No way! After all, he's the son of a Gym Leader, so vitriolic awesomeness practically runs in his veins! So yeah, Brendan's  pretty self-absorbed, even putting a ridiculous amount of effort into making everything he does look as cool as humanly possible. And while all the adversity he's faced travelling the region's humbled him a little, he still makes sure to let everyone know how much of a RAD NEIGHBOUR he is. As you might expect, this means he's prone to being rather idiotic at times, like the time he insisted that Surskit must surely keep its typing when it evolves, or when he spent an hour trying to get into a desert without goggles... or the fact that the journey to Rustboro City had less to do with badges and was more like The Quest for a Good Burger Because Hoenn is Dumb and Has No Miltank/Tauros.

He's also prone to moments of pointless stubbornness! For an example, if he can manage it, Brendan will never accept that he is wrong. Whether he has to lead an argument down a tangent or just plain change his argument in the middle of a discussion, he won't accept anything that contradicts his cool and awesome self-image (bizarrely, this also means he never even listened to the arguments put forwards by Teams Aqua and Magma, since the 'villains' he'd been going up against couldn't possibly be good). Of course, he'll also deny doing anything uncool as well, which is why there's no way he has to resist fawning over his Castform, and he definitely didn't scream the first time he saw a Duskull!

Brendan's also not entirely honest about his own feelings, meaning this is where we tie in that most wondrous of words: tsundere. He doesn't like facing anything about himself which doesn't fit in with his whole 'heroically masculine' self-image (such as, say, his interest in berry-gardening, fondness for Pokemon he considers 'cute', or the passing interest in Pokemon Contests he's been developing since he arrived in Hoenn), and tends to become pretty brash when they're brought up. He also has a few insecurities, based on wanting to try and make his dad proud of him, but he doesn't really dwell on them that often.

So, so far, it sounds like Brendan's something of a jerk! Which... is partially accurate. While he doesn't usually go over-the-top with his self-praise unless someone gives him a chance (and believe me, he will go on and on and on when that happens), he can be a little condescending at times, such as when he put down May by talking about how much greater of a challenge his dad would be compared to her. It's worth noting that this isn't so much him being deliberately dickish, so much as it is him being typically boyish and not realising that he should consider other people's feelings before he opens his mouth.

Still. he's a nice guy most of the time, really! Shortly before indirectly insulting May, he even praised Flannery's skill as a Gym Leader (mostly because of datTorkoal.....), and agreed she should stop trying to live up to her grandfather! In addition, despite the whole ego thing, Brendan doesn't assume he's in any way better than anyone else, or that other people or worse than him: he just considers himself to be this Amazing Hero in a Foreign Land that everyone should acknowledge and respect. He also sees it as his duty as an awesome Trainer to encourage and cheer up anyone he can, which is how he and Wally managed to become pretty close over the course of only two meetings.

So, to summarise all this? EGO EGO EGO EGO TSUN EGO EGO EGO DERE EGO EGO EGO EGO FRIENDSHIP EGO.

Strengths:

+ great endurance!
+ used to walking/running long distances without much rest
+ can get through caves and forests easily
+ semi-decent strategically, usually tailors his team to deal with his next opponent
+ smart enough to keep his Pokemon and their movesets varied
+ his sheer stubbornness means he's full of Heroic Willpower!

Weaknesses:

- still just a kid, he's gonna go down pretty quickly in an actual fight
- will always try to use brute force before any actual strategy
- tries to do things on his own even when he clearly needs help
- tends to see things in black and white
- has trouble with empathy, and with dealing with his own emotions
- prone to panicking easily if something surprises him

First Person: Q&A BECAUSE IT'S WORK. KYWORK.

Third Person:

So... how did he get here again? Looking back to when he'd first woken up in Luceti, one of his first thoughts was How much further 'til Lilycove...?, which had then quickly progressed into ... I don't remember heading to sleep. and then ........ Wait, where are my clothes?. So, yeah, after a few seconds of flailing and getting to his feet, he was more than a little surprised to see that yes, someone had stripped him of everything and dumped him in the middle of nowhere. Even worse, he'd been left without any of his Pokémon in sight, meaning that, mostly likely... he was at the mercy of whatever lived in the grass around here (probably nothing too dangerous, but still).Thankfully, he quickly overcame the urge to over-react, and had calmed himself rather quickly (or at least he'd like to think. 6 whole minutes was probably a record for this sort of thing, right?).

After that, he'd called on his skills as a region-traversing explorer, known for travelling across the land and searching far and wide, and used his usual method for getting around: picking a random direction and marching in it. At the very least, it'd give him a little time to think, and to figure out who'd left him here. Some member of Team Aqua or Magma out for revenge? It was possible, since it didn't seem likely that Wallace could have convinced those idiots to change their ways, so he made a note of that. Maybe a Pokémon was responsible? It'd be a little hard to check, but he wouldn't put it past a few of the Pokémon he'd run into lately. Alternatively... maybe the Trick Master was still annoyed over that gaping hole Beldum had left in his wall? ................ Uh. He couldn't still be that mad about it, right? Right?

Either way, that thought was interrupted when he finally reached the edge of the woods. Oddly enough, he'd managed to make his way through the forest with relative ease (seriously, that was nothing compared to the hell that was his first voyage through Petalburg Woods) to find... a completely isolated village he'd never seen before. Meaning he still had no idea where he was. Great, just great.

"Welp," he sighed, "no use complaining about it now." And with that in mind, he set off for the unfamiliar streets, more that ready to deal with whatever challenge lay ahead. .
