Severus opened the door to the guest room carefully as he listened for footsteps in the hall. Thus far he had managed to avoid Lily's sister except at mealtimes, when her parents were present, and he intended to keep it that way.

Her family had surprised him, actually, by looking genuinely pleased to see him. Something about any friend of Lily's being welcome... It made a change. He had yet to decide it it was a pleasant one, as it meant extended periods of time in the company of others - others full of Christmas cheer - but it was better than a hex in the face. Just.

Finding the hallway empty, he slid silently out of his room, homework in hand, and moved down the hall to Lily's room, opening the door with a soft knock.

Sitting in silence, Lily worked not even looking up at the sound of the knock. Now being home there was so few people who could be at her door. Even less that would come right in, Petunia. As she finished up the last sentence of her paragraph glanced as the door opened.

With a small smile she went back to her work. "Enjoying yourself so far, Severus? Or do you still wish you'd stayed at the castle?" There was a smirk on her lips as she glanced right back up at him as she moved over on her bed to make room for him.

Eyeing the bed warily, Snape took a step into the room, shutting the door behind him. "I am having a perfectly adequate holiday - I appreciate your hospitality" he replied slowly, looking around the room. He'd seen it before, but it had been many years since they'd run in to get one of her toys to play with.

Awkwardly, the dark haired boy came to sit on the edge of the mattress, hands held stiffly around his potions book as he looked down at his black socks through his hair. It needed cutting, but then when didn't it?

"I actually came to ask if you had a spare quill - the nib on mine has just broken, and I've yet to complete my homework" he said after a moment, half turning his head to look up at Lily.

"A quill?" She questioned as she looked down at the pen in her hand. Lily wasn't even sure if she had brought any home with her. Yet she surely had to have some laying about her room some where. Perhaps on her desk or keeping place in a book.

Moving her books aside, she slid off the bed and walked over to the desk. "...a quill..." She muttered more to herself as she sifted through a small box of writing utensils. "I suppose you wouldn't prefer--nevermind." After moving a few things about, Lily found a quill poking out of the top of her Charms text.

Pulling it out, she walked back to the bed handing over to Severus as she climbed back to her original position. "Did you need anything else?"
