Hannah had plenty of free time. But she didn't really enjoy it. After the row with Kevin, she had gone and cried herself to sleep that night. The next days, she had avoided Kevin and she felt that Kevin had done the same thing. Mandy had been the only one she had talked to about the row.
She had tried to act normal, finally joining her old study groups again, spending more time on patrols and other prefect duites and finally, she had spend more time in the greenhouses to make for the time she missed. Professor Sprout had scowled her for neglecting her duties but seemed to understand why Hannah had been absent.
And now, she went ahead and checked on Greenhouse #5 in which the non-magical but medical plants were growing. She was not hungry, so she had skipped dinner knowing that she could something out of the kitchens later.
As she opened the door, she recognized a boy tending to the bloodworts as her boyfriend.
Kevin hadn't been expecting anyone to come into the greenhouse while he was working. So, when he heard his name he was slightly starteled and dropped the shears he was using. Only his intimate knowledge of the voice kept him from snapping that he'd almost cut his toes off.
"Hannah," he said taking a deep breath as he forced himself to calmly bend down and pick up the garden tool.
Hannah blushed and a mix of discomfort and happiness rose up in her.
"What... What are you doing here? Why are you not at dinner?" She asked trying to keep her voice neutral and her hands busy with fingering the nearby crocusses but failed spectacularly at neutrality.
"I promised Professor Sprout I'd help her prune these," he continued the surface conversation they were having. He knew he should apologize since he was the one that went off half cocked. Still, he couldn't bring himself to just blurt out the reasoning behind it all.
