No moral compasses? The continuing breakdown of society? Hell, I don't know what's wrong with kids today! I can tell you that I saw crap like this coming 20 years ago, though, and it's one reason I chose not to reproduce.

Lack of parenting. Parents have been effectively neutered by all those handwringers decrying discipline as being somehow detrimental to a child's learning and exploring of their surroundings, so now parents don't tell their kids not to do things that our parents would've sent our heads flying into the next county for.

And if you think I'm hyperbolizing, I'm not. I watch it happen with my 7 year old niece. She gets into something she's not supposed to, mommy says a perfunctory "no," she says "but I just wanna..." and continues whatever it was she was doing. I remember one time she was starting to dig in a box I had a bunch of bottles of pills in, and I told her to stop. She started with her "but I just wanna..." and I told her no again, this time in a firm "I'm not fucking around, little girl" tone of voice. She starts howling like I just cracked her upside the head with a 2x4, and my sister comes charging in from the other room all "OMG WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER??? MY POOR BABY!" Yeah, teach your "poor baby" to keep her grubby ( ... )
