There had been plenty of time to straighten up before he got there. Her apartment is tidier now than it has been in weeks.
Cleaning kept her busy. That was good. Ynez was a nervous wreck, really quite upset about the whole thing, mostly because she can't even guess what it is he might tell her. She'd been so convinced he had AIDS. It had been horrible to contemplate.
She doesn't really notice he's late. He's pretty much on time as far as her concept of such thing works. She smooths her hair down as she goes to answer the door. Suddenly, she feels very shy. Is she wearing the right thing? Should she have run out and gotten food? Alcohol?

He's never driving like that again.
"Hi."
Is it bad that she smells really good? Or that he hadn't had dinner yet?

She smiles.
"You got here really fast. Come in."
She steps back out of the door.
"Mi casa es su casa."

Excuses are already starting to pile up in his head. Things he could say, could deny.
"Thanks." He steps in. No barrier.
