I was going to say you were being too harsh and then I got to the last one. Yep. I really hated Gwen in Adrift.

they were a bit harsh, but in each case Gwen's unbearable need to be right caused others to suffer while she personally walked away unscathed. If we take RTD at his word, that life in Torchwood is dangerous, then how can a character who has consistently been the cause of so many dangerous situations continue to walk away unscathed?

The wedding was the final straw for me. When she refused to delay, even when Rhys was more than willing. It just shouted, "ME, ME, ME, ME."

tkks- scared me, suzie is back and not going anywhere.
eod - sad for owen and rhys, gwen going off the rails going to pp, not so bad.
meat- stilled pissed by gwen's rant and the fact she almost cost rhys and ianto their lives and then still found a way to blame jack.
something borrowed- almost canon, after all one person did die and if had not been for rhys , jack and the rest of torchwood who knows what may have happened. the cost of wedding compared to how many funerals and the massive cover-up. still pissed about the thoughtless disregard gwen showed both sets of parents during the whole faux pregnancy and how she thought she would explain it without the liberal use of retcon.
adrift- she might just winged her or missed or ? depending on your mood while reading.

suzie is one scary-ass character. maybe she has another trick up her sleeve and we'll find her and Gray torturing Gwen during Series 4? After all, Torchwood isn't a safe place to work, according to certain idiots- I mean creators.

i think, had opening the rift not 'reversed' things that Owen would have gone completely off the rails and committed suicide. At that point in the character development he was so quickly circling the drain that it would have likely been the final push. With Rhys still dead, Gwen would have been an unbearable harpy and while the protocol probably said a bullet to the brain, I don't think Ianto or Tosh would have been comfortable doing it; so they tried to retcon Torchwood away.

for a Mary Sue, she really is the primary source of problems- not unlike the blond one on DW. Apparently along with recasting the same people and using the same names over and over, RTD also recycles his plots.

and nikki didn't miss.

I've tried not to be anti-Gwen, because for the most part I just prefer to ignore people that I don't get along with in my daily life, so I apply to same principle to television, films, and literature. But CoE really caused me to actively dislike so much of Torchwood because it seems that only the least sympathetic of the characters came away largely unharmed. If anyone tries to tell me that she got it rough because she was left all alone, then I just have to call BS on their argument. She was left with her husband and her baby and was really the only character that could possibly return to Torchwood without it reeking of a deus ex machina device. Will any of us really be satisfied if Jack pops up in Doctor Who, gets a 30 second pep talk from his undeserving idol and reverts back to the earliest form of his character? Sad thing is that that is almost certainly what is going to happen. But Gwen cannot be touched or seriously affected in any way, because the producers of the shows have no shame in telling the viewers that she's ( ... )

This...exactly. I can't wait until Captain Jack has a romance with a pedophile.

Ilike the endings for End of Days and Adrift. They are two episodes when I would have gladly seen Gwen get her cumuppence.

I had high hopes for Adrift as being the point where Gwen finally learns a lesson. Too bad we didn't get that. Maybe I wouldn't be so disgusted with the character if she'd shown a bit of remorse for once.

I'd give *anything* for just one of these to have happened on the show! The more I hear and see of this character the more I loath her, and I just didn't think that was possible. Thanks for these great alternatives, you really should write more :D

i used to be indifferent when it came to gwen. my forays into gwen-bashing tended to have the south park 'you killed gwen, you bastard' sort of mentality. but, after EM publicly stated that Jack & Ianto were the 'comic relief' to her serious scenes? well, that was pretty much the end of it. i gave EM the benefit of the doubt, but now it's apparent that she believes the smoke RTD blows up her backside.

that means slag Gwen, often and creatively.

I think for me it was "we can't mollycoddle the fans" no luv, but apparently you can patronize them! Now I can't even look at pictures of EM in *any* capacity!

I'm all for the creative slagging of Gwen, as often as possible :D

Hee! Gwen as cult leader! I remember Heaven's Gate well, it happened here.

*blink* "comic relief"? I missed that interview. Wow.

I remember Heaven's Gate too, I'm in Northern California but they had a small outlying 'pod' in San Mateo that committed suicide the same day. There were only 6 of them (I think) and tend to get overlooked in favour of the San Diego mass suicide.

Someone posted a link to the interview on AGA, I still remember reading it several times wondering if she *really* said that, then she said it again during a video interview. That's when I decided EM is nothing more than RTD's sock puppet.
