"Dad! There you are!" Lilith said, shimmering away from Veronica's side and on to the porch next to her father.

Cole eyes the wee blonde girl. He could sense the demon in her, and she shimmered, so she likely his, but who was her mother? He looked at her hair, then looked over at Veronica. Oh, no way. . . .

"Hey, Cole," Veronica said, smirking. "Apparently there is some universe out there where I was unable to resist your charms."

Cole recovered from his surprise. "No surprise there," he said. "I knew you'd give in sooner or later." He looked back to Lilith. "Hey, sweetheart," he said.

Sam drifted out onto the porch, his expression pretty close to the one whatever photographers covered the minor-league circuits had captured the couple of times he'd gotten concussed.

"My head hurts," he said, flicking his unfueled Zippo open and shut just to have something to do with his hands.
