Should you want to, you can read about my time in the hospital. This includes pain, breathing and possible leukemia.
it all started Friday afternoon, with what felt like a punch in the ribs and a persistent cough. By Friday night, after the snow had started, the pain had intensified. Saturday morning, my entire left side was spasming and it had become difficult to breathe. Stephen was worried and had me call my doctor, but they told me they weren't taking calls unless this was an emergency. What the fuck counts as an emergency? Saturday I took some muscle relaxers which knocked me out completely. I slept the entire rest of the day, waking up long enough to eat dinner and drink water. While the pain had dulled, it was still present and my breathing became more labored.
Sunday morning was the worst. At this point, my body had shifted so I was hunched over because of the shooting agony along my left side. My breathing was shallow. We walked from Stephen's house to piney branch where the streets had been plowed and Stephen's dad was able to meet us and drive us to Washington Adventist hospital. I spent the next 12 hours in extreme pain, unable to get comfortable, crying and them ding test after test ruling out causes. They kept pumping me full of morphine, to no effect. The nurse at one pint commented that I had be given enough morphine to knock out a person twice my size, but I didn't make me tired or even dull the pain. Nothing worked. I had to hold my arms above my head to take x-rays and a CAT scan, and each time I walked away sobbing, in even more pain, able to breathe less. At 10pm, they revealed that I had a blood clot and a partially collapsed lung. They needed to hold me over night.
We got up my room but they still had not found a pain remedy. I was on oxygen at this point. When a nurse came in and started asking questions such as my religious preference, Stephen yelled at her that I had been in pain for 48 hours, the hospital had done nothing to relived this, and to find a doctor. I will forever be grateful to him for that. I'm sure it had killed him to see me like that with no end in sight. I was sobbing, begging him to make it stop. We finally spoke to a doctor for a few minutes who listened to me and gave me some strong NSAIDs and muscle relaxers. Finally at 1am, the pain stopped and I slept for 14 hours.
Monday I was weak but moved around. A women across the hall started yelling at nurses around 6am and didn't stop until she fell asleep around 10pm. She was horrible, mean, and cruel to them and the entire floor heard it. Tina visited, Stephen brought me food to eat.
Tuesday night I was released. It was a battle but I got out. It still hurts to breathe, but the pain is gone. i'm not an strong, but I'm getting around. I still want to sleep 16 hours but working today was the right thing to do. Tomorrow I'll go to my doctor and we'll have my blood checked. He is concerned at my leukemia might be effecting the blood, or have come back. He says the chances are low but has no idea why I could have gotten a blood clot. More answers to come, I guess.
