So when we got back from Florida about 3 weeks ago our neighbor who was watching our cats saw our fish tank and thought we needed some Cichlid fish. He has a bunch and they had bred so much he needed to get rid of some

Hi I saw your entry on equestrian and came over here, and then I saw this entry..
Yeah Cichlids are REALLY aggressive fish. (your neighboor should have known that!) I have a Tank of them, and the get along with great themselves most of the time. But with peacefully schooling fish that just like an open buffet. I know you said they had babies the best thing to is to get a plecostomus (one of the sucker fish) they most likely will eat the babies, and eggs And are tough enough not to get pick on by the cichlids.
If you have anymore cichlids question I can help you out. :)
I dont know if I could get a fish to eat the babies...that sounds awful, but at the same time I dont want a ton of fish in my tiny tank. I finally found out what kind of cichlids they are, they are convict cichlids, which apparently are the rabbits of the fish world, they dont care about water condition, surroundings or anything they will spawn and spawn and spawn...I think I will go get that sucker fish!
what size tank do you have? the kind I have are the convicts too. i started out with 1 pair i think i have 20 fish now in a 30gl tank. that's when I got a pleco. they really like caves to hide in. i use small flower pots. it fun to watch, each pair pick a location and guards it fiercely. they move the gravel around a bunch too.
its only a 10 gallon. I have 3 now, one never comes out of my fake log. I want to get a 30 gallon cause I feel bad that my Danios are now stuck in a 2.5 gallon tank that I kept my Betta in before he died( at 4 years old!) This tank as been a pain though, the stupid kid at petsmart sold us the tank and 8 fish on the same day...never mention that the tank needs to be established, probably took 3 months for the tank to be nontoxic after that fiasco.
