The House of the Vampire (George Sylvester Viereck)

Hmm well now, this was an interesting read. I had intended to read it maybe on the plane to Japan but the obsessiveness in me won out and I read it right away. I had been hoping for something about a Vampire (hence the title) but got something altogether more sinister. I shalln't give away the ( Read more... )

Ambiguous endings, I'm never quite sure how I feel about those. Whilst I love carrying on the story in my head, expanding it beyond the original story ( which is in part perhaps why I love fanfiction so much), but I also like some kind of conclusion.

So when you say disturbing, what do you mean, if you can say without major plot spoilers? For instance, there is a book called Lovely Bones, which I read the first chapter of when I was 15, and I was disturbed enough to not want to touch it even now five years later?
Or morally intriguing, as in it raises issues that you haven't thought of?

Hmm I'm debating how to say it without revealing the plot...
Its a take on idolism I suppose that I hadn't really thought of, the storyline follows a psychological/psychic path with smidgens of the occult thrown in perhaps? The interpretation I think is more down to the individual reader but personally it unnerved me more than disturbed me.

Also if you can think of any, I'd love to hear your recommendations ^_^

I looked into it because of you're little review here, and I'm pretty sure it's not my thing.

Looked like an interesting book. I'm just not sure it'd hook me.

Hmm, well I felt the same way in the first chapter or so. It really depends, aside from the obvious draws its also a nicely written and fairly gentle book, in terms of its progression, that can be read in one evening.
