Shopping for a car on the internet is so useless. I can't just sit and look and not want most everything I see. There is no simple way around doing this
( Read more... )
1) Are used cars not an option? Not a place you want to go?
2) What's wrong with the Kia Rio? I don't know much about these (and yeah, the Mazda is better-looking) but if it's $3,000 cheaper for a new one, that's not nothing.
3) "seriously? I'll be in my thirties when I am done paying for it."
When I was 25, I also wanted to be and planned to be out of debt by the time I was 30 (letting student loans be an exception - those are on a 15-year payment plan starting some time in early 2002).
I'm not discouraging you from this way of thinking - and you *have* to think in terms of getting out of debt, true, but don't be too worried about being in debt in your thirties. You'll be in distinguished, fine company. Though I realize I am not exactly a great authority on this subject. *wink*
I have a good story about dental bills but this is a public entry. :)
used cars are an option, but there are so many and so unpredictable. They also are nearly the same price if you want one that appears to have a lot of life in them.
the kia rio is still outta my range, I think. The cheapest one that's an auto (i've driven stick, it doesnt seem to be worth it) is over 15,000 with tax.
It's not that I think I'll be out of debt when I'm thirty, it's that the money I am saving right now will be used on a car, and with payments and insurance that means little/no savings till it's done being paid off.
Don't think of it that way. If you start making more money, you can pay off the car sooner, not to mention you can start saving more. I used to think I'd never have a proper savings account, but after starbucks was over and I started making more money I was able to pay things off, get out of credit card debt, and have even started saving a little money for the future. Find a nice early 2000s japanese car(Toyota, Honda, etc) and it'll last another 10 years, even with only minor maintenance.
