Ahaha! I'm toying with a sequel- I'm a bit worried it'll turn into So-verse 2.0, though. IF I do something with it, it's gonna be darker (but not batshit crazy therapist darker).
I'm glad both you and Chris approve of this story.
Sorry for the belated reply, but thanks so much, dude.
I wasn't planning on doing a sequel, and I'm still not a 100% sure I willm but a new plot bunny just skipped into my head last week and now I really want to do it. Stay tuned! (so to speak)
This was good, like really good. Your JJ was excellent, not OTT with the aspergers, but at the same time it was always around and influencing his thoughts. I love Katie with JJ (well, actually, I love Katie with anyone) and you've hit on the side of her that he brings out really well - that sort of insecure but still fighting to be in charge side. I also really liked how you portrayed the three musketeers struggling to cope without Effy and how JJ sees exactly what is going on but Cook and Freddie are being as obtuse about it as possible.
I really think you should write more of this (for selfish reasons mainly, but also because it would lend itself well to a follow up). Now I've told you...etc.
I posted it just prior to JJ's episode so I think it got lost admist the canon talk. Plus, let's face it, if you don't write naomily, you don't get noticed. Which is fine because I love Naomily but other people do them better and I love focussing on the side characters (like J, bless his heart).
I love Katie with JJ (well, actually, I love Katie with anyone) and you've hit on the side of her that he brings out really well - that sort of insecure but still fighting to be in charge sideYeah, exactly. I think Katie is still clinging to her fierce bitch WAG ways so she naturally baulks at opening up to someone like JJ. When he stops thinking he's a mental basket case and relaxes he's lovely and I do think they have potential
( ... )
Yeah, I know what you mean about writing 'side' characters, it's something I enjoy quite a lot actually because I think it's a bit more original then, you know?
I totally agree that Katie/JJ have potential, and as such am excited to see where else you go with this :)
And there'll be no Katie/JJ of a romantic sense in mine, so your brainwave is entirely your own!
That they are constantly trying to diffuse potentially volatile situations within their respective ~families and hold everything and everyone together.
OMG, this! I always thought they'd get along, but I doubt Katie would open up to him unless they shared something in common. The more I thought about it, the more JJ's situation mirrored Katie's family (particularly the Jenna/Emily relationship) and once I finally grasped this the story flowed naturally. Up until then it was difficult to write this (I came into it thinking OMG, Katie/JJ FTW!!...now...how do I actually do this?)
On a more shallow note, I love JJ's obsession with Katie's boobs (I totally relate :D) and the bedroom scene was rather hot.*fans self*
Aha! Me too. Although, J-kins likes boob in general. Like we do.
Anyway, I don't do...hetero sex, so the fact that this was even a little sexy makes me inordinately pleased.
For me, the best fics are the ones where the writing is so totally in character that I can see and hear everything effortlessly in my head. And this
( ... )
So this is the fic you mentioned? Cos well, I'm glad you did! You know me, I'm not the biggest JJ fan (at all) so I'm not normally interested in him generally but I have to give you kudos here cos not only did you voice him so incredibly well, but you managed to interest me & hold that throughout the whole story.
But besides your spot-on JJ characterization, you've managed to capture Katie in the perfect way. Her hidden (or sometimes not so well-hidden) desires and insecurities, yet her outward persona is still so hard. You know? I'm not good at explaining myself sometimes, lol. But it's kind of a thing with all the characters you've portrayed; the way they appear on the outside versus the tragedy on the inside.
And the ending was real and perfect. Just spot on.
Aw, man, thanks so much for your lovely feedback. Particularly since I'm like, besotted with your stories (I would marry your them if you could. I'm pretty sure it's legal in Sweden).
Yes, this is the story which I will be expanding on. The next series will be told from Katie's point of view. It will be drama filled but no one will have their brains battered in with a baseball bat.
Seriously, though, I'm thrilled I managed to hold your interest despite your ambivalence to JJ. I think all these characters have the potential to be interesting, and personally I enjoy writing something about a character who hasn't had much exposure in fandom.
Her hidden (or sometimes not so well-hidden) desires and insecurities, yet her outward persona is still so hardYES...exactly. Katie here is based on her season three persona, where she desperately hides her vulnerability. I think the fact that all her preconceived aspirations have been scuttled put her in a position where she could look at JJ as an equal. I really think she sort of believed that
