For www.corinnemec.com :
I planned this trip months in advance and have known since December that it was "Going to Happen!" and told Corin so in a myspace email. He knew he had a new 'stalker' then ;)
A new job happened but before I took the job, I made sure they knew I was going to Vancouver in July and why I was going. Now they knew they had a nutty new IT tech on their hands!
The Star-ving Streamy campaign started and in that hullabaloo Corin agreed that we should 'do lunch'. My roommates were invited too and we all melted like good fan-girls.
So finally July 8th arrived. We made it to the hotel in relatively one piece though Laura was limping on her poor sprained ankle from two weeks before. We lost a roomie to a family emergency. She was very missed! We registered and first up was a meet N greet for that night. Being newbie Gatecon goers we had no idea who was meeting and greeting. It turns out - EVERYONE.
We walked into the lounge area around 7 and by 8:30 almost all the guests had arrived. Colin Cunningham, Paul McGillion, JR Bourne, Musetta Vander, Cliff Simon, Erick Avari and of course, Corin Nemec. We'd seen Colin and JR first so we were looking for Corin and suddenly Laura spotted him. She parted the crowd like the Red Sea and Mary and I followed. I started snapping photos of him 'holding court'. This meetNgreet was very photo friendly and people were all waiting politely for the guest to finish talking to someone and then moving in for their chat and photo with the guests. I've really never seen anything like it.
Corin remembered us (how could he not - we've been stalking him for months!) We hugged, took pictures and talked about lunch. Just to make everyone's hearts flutter like mine did, when Corin hugs you, he'll rub your back a little too - very sweet and extremely sexy!
I also asked him to pose for a website pic and since he had a V-8 in his hand, he went the full 'sponsor me!' route and posed beautifully. We finally moved away to let other adoring fans into his circle. Before we left, I went up to him again for another hug (a pattern of the weekend because Corin-hugs NEVER get old) and we said adieu until the next day's panels and our lunch.
I don't remember all of the details from the panels though as I remember things, I will post. Biggest revelation Corin wise was his announcement of filming Supernatural. That took flight on the internet soon after and has made it into fan forums and international websites by now.
After the second panel, we found Corin signing autographs and picked him up for lunch. We walked slow so we didn't lose Laura and Corin led us to a place he knew. It used to be Greek but when the waiter mispronounced "Gyros" it became clear it had changed a bit. We sat outside and chatted about everything. I'd also become fascinated with the waiters in Vancouver (I have no idea why) and asked Corin if he could tell if someone was an actor. He replied that sometimes he could and in this particular case was pretty sure not. This became a running theme for me culminating in my taking the picture of an actor/waiter at another restaurant and Corin teasing me that "Not all waiters are actors!"
We spent about an hour at lunch and then he acted as tourist guide and pointed us toward the Bay and Stanley Park while he went back to the hotel for the first of his 'up close and personal' encounters for the weekend. There was a silent auction where people could write down bids and the top 5 bidders would win a 20 minute chat with their guest of choice. I knew people in all of Corin's groups and they were beaming like the sun after their encounters.
That night was the banquet and people bid to sit at a table with four guests. Then the actors ended up mingling anyway. The only guest to really make it to our table was Corin but that was fine with me! I have a picture of him standing at our table (with another V-8!) I think a belt buckle count had started by this time as well because I'd read people posting about his different belts and buckles. Friday night was belt #3, but no buckle. The dinner entertainment was Colin Cunningham's mentalism and was completely awesome. JR Bourne was Colin's 'assistant' (because he was talking when Colin was waiting for silence in the room.) More about that in another post.
After the banquet was over, I remember talking to Corin but he was off to bed to sleep since it was already 11:30pm-ish.
Saturday there was another panel. I'll have to check my pictures but I think this might have been the kitchen appliance one when Corin said he would be a salad shooter. For which he was mocked by the other guests who I think had never heard of a salad shooter. Then I think it got switched to salad tosser and just went into the gutter from there :)This panel was also asked the question about pranks and what sort of pranks they've pulled. Corin, it turns out, was quite a little devil to his mother. She would work late and come into their apartment with the lights off and walk down the hallway where Spiderman-wannabe Corin would be hovering near the ceiling (having scaled the walls when she entered) and he would drop onto her back. He'd also wait in her closet in the morning to scare her when she opened the door to get dressed. He imitated her yelling "CORKY" and then, in an aside to the audience said "yes, Corky WAS my nickname, WAS... Thanks Grandma."
Also on Saturday were the photo opportunities. The guests stayed in the room (there were two rooms) and people were let into the room a few at a time. Then everyone who was there for a certain guest would get in line for that guest then sit back down and wait for the next guest. It worked well and there were some great conversations happening over the noise. My photo op with Corin started with him saying I was "trying to out-tall him" to which i replied "i am taller than you" and him disagreeing. It was settled with a back to back assessment where the crowd decided his hair was the deciding factor and he WAS taller than me. My next pic was with JR Bourne. The short version of this has to do with what had happened the night before. I'd hugged JR on a 'drive-by' because I was actually walking by him to get to L but how do you walk by JR Bourne without some innocent hug-groping? So I went in for a hug and said I was going to meet my friend and pointed to her. JR laughed and since I was still standing there hugging him while telling him what I was doing, teased me about 'not letting go'. I assured him I was there to stalk Corin not him - to which he replied "What does Corin have that I don't have?" When I went up to him for my photo-op I said I was doing this the 'official' way instead of just the drive-by hugging the night before. He then proceeded to show the room what I'd done. Everyone laughed. After the picture, Corin teased me about being funny. I replied that I was HYSTERICAL and before I left the room, I sat on the chairs by him, Andee Frizzell and Vanessa Angel. He was sitting in the middle of the two very lovely women so I called it a Corin-sandwich. He smiled. This might have been the day that someone asked him what he was reading. It turned out it was something Eastern and mystical.
The auction Saturday night was mind-blowing. Corin and the rest of the guests all were there to help auction off items for charity. Corin worked the room and was there from beginning to end - almost 2am! (there was another belt and belt buckle by the way.) L' said he could auction off a scavenger hunt for his tattoos. He said there was one that was in a sensitive place so - not so much ;)
Sunday arrived and it was more panels. Someone asked Corin about an embarassing moment. He was actually sitting in the audience asking a question of JR Bourne (I think.) He said he'd save the answer for his panel later on. During the break, I stepped outside and Corin was sitting with Mary and Laura smoking. I said that he could show Star-ving as his embarassing moment! I had it in my room (he'd signed it for me the day before.) I went and got it and gave it to the AV people. Corin ended up sitting in on another panel with Musetta (they did Mansquito together) and then when it was time for his panel, we ended with the 12th episode of Star-ving -
http://www.crackle.com/c/Star-ving/Deliverance/2429857 - Deliverance. By this time, everyone who was going to be at the closing ceremony was arriving since the panel was running a little over so the room probably had about 300 people in it including most all of the other actors. I'd forgotten there was a full frontal backshot of Corin naked in it. L even has a recording of the audience reaction. It was epic! I had lots of people coming up to me talking about it and especially the other actors saying how awesome it was. Corin said he got lots and lots of looks!
In the closing video they had a few Corin snippets including someone styling Alan's hair like Corin's. (Alan is the event MC.)
Next up were more up close and personal chats. Also, during the autograph session, we could bid on who to sit with. I of course put down for Corin. I went into the room for autographs and then after I'd received most of them, I sat down with Corin. Lots of hugs and Corin patented "Guest Groping". We chatted between people and when some were coming up to the autograph table, I was talking to them (they were people I'd just met and I was serious Corin fan-girl so we chatted about Corin and other things.) Corin said I had a 'magnetic personality' at one point which was sweet. Somewhere after 20 minutes, one of the previous girls who had sat with Corin joked that I'd gotten more time with him. Corin of course teased that that was the way I was. Corin went for a break and left me to watch the table. When he came back and sat down, the girls (Olga and Lizzie i think) gave him a massage. Eyes front ladies! Just his back. He was so tense, poor man and seriously just melted himself. I have a pic or two of him pretty much almost drooling!
Later that night, Corin came out for a smoke and sat with us again (and Dean Aylesworth and his girlfriend Julia Rhodes (she's on SGU - still non-speaking role but you absolutely see her in a lot of scenes.) I have pics from this of Corin in 'the pants' from Boston that started my Corin fan-girl-ness. I also asked him to sign my shirt. (This started when JR messed up my shirt with his pen during autographs and I started getting him and others to sign. Once they had signed I *NEEDED* Corin's signature!) Finally it was time to sleep and with one more hug and one more photo, he was off to bed.
He was an amazing guest, fun to talk to and watch with the other guests, incredibly sexy and sweet with all the hugs all weekend and just a joy to be with. He's started shooting on Supernatural and I can't wait for that to come out. My fingers are crossed and I just know good things are coming to Corin. He deserves it all!
