Buh.   I lost a private student yesterday.  He'd only come three times before dropping, but I can't help but let it make me feel a little more like a flop at this teacher thing.  or at least like I'm conning my other, faithful students.  "Flop" might be too strong a word, though-- more like an intruder, doing a poor job at pretending I know exactly ( Read more... )

I would do something with your students that has a pattern. When I was at this same point in my teaching attempts I made up a writing project for my advanced class, which had weekly deadlines, and that seemed to work pretty well. I feel like patterns help a lot (even though I didn't make much use of them because I was bumbling arond the whole time!).
