Return to SOLDIER [Midgar - Morning]

While The Boss normally tried to avoid such sentimentalities, she had to admit that it was good to be home. Back in Midgar once again, even if she was only staying in a hotel, no longer owning a home in the city of her birth, it was still good to be home.

She had rarely spent any time there, in a city she worked so hard to defend, marching and ( Read more... )

As it happened, the Boss was in luck; Sephiroth had too much to do, with the plans for SeeD and SOLDIER working together to get to the bottom of the disappearances (and murders, if Noble was any indication) to be ironed out, and too few people to distract him from his work with Riku still barely on speaking terms with him and Integra and Zack both preoccupied, to leave his office nearly as much as he might have liked to. In fact, he was grateful for the interruption, as a silent office and paperwork were not the aspects of military life that had induced him to enlist.

"Come in," he called without getting up.

While she was frequently seen with a smile on her face, The Boss was particularly happy today, being home once more, and that was reflected in the subtle aura of happiness that she seemed to be radiating.

So, when she stepped into the office she gave Sephiroth a particularly radiant smile, nodding in greeting rather than saluting since she was no longer actually part of the military. "General Sephiroth, I hope you don't mind if I take a moment of your time."

It was just as well that Sephiroth had learned, over the years, not to appear phased by any development, no matter how surprising; it was a matter of appearing professional and collected in front of his men, even when he was anything but. But even so, his shock was great enough that all his conditioning managed to save him was a fall right out of his chair.

She was a bit older, perhaps, in civilian clothing - and a woman like her would never look right or comfortable in civilian clothing, something he'd always felt the two of them had in common - but he would have known her anywhere. And even though he wouldn't have stood for most fellow soldiers, he got respectfully to his feet in the face of this particular civilian. In fact, it took conscious effort not to salute.

"Boss," he murmured, greeting and acknowledgment rolled up into one word with a dash of reverence for flavor. "I had no idea you were even in the city, but whatever brings you here is almost certainly worth all the time I could give you."

It was so good to be home, to be back among those who had fought alongside her. Nice, too, to be known as 'The Boss' once more, that name felt more comfortable to her now than even her given name.

"I decided it was time to finally come back. Traveling is nice, but there really is no place like home. First of all, though, I would like to congratulate you on your promotion," she took a couple steps forward and held out her hand for a congratulatory handshake, giving him a quick once-over.

The Boss hadn't seen him in years, and if she didn't know better she could have sworn he'd gained a few inches of height since the last time she saw him.
