I drowned my Bug last night.
I went out to the EQ last night to take my car off roading and work out a little, okay, a LOT of stress I've been having lately. Anyway, I came to a portion of the road that was underwater, and given that it hadn't rained in a few days, my mind was thinking that it would be pretty shallow and that My car should be able to dive on it without any problems. And that it would be totally awesome. So about 10 feet into the lake I realized that this wasn't such a great idea, and went to back up and get myself out of there. Big mistake. Backing up caused my engine to go into an even deeper part of the lake, which submerged my air intake and my exhaust pipes, effectively suffocating my engine. Yeah, it's not modified to function underwater yet. I should probably get working on that.
Anyway, I didn't even try to restart my engine because I've heard horror stories about these kind of things, and decided to call up my friend Lenna, who owns a pickup truck, so that she could drag me out of the lake. She agreed and came down to get me, but while we were driving to my car, she goes into two ruts that are way too deep and high-centers her truck (basically, the ruts were so much deeper than her suspension that her truck got hung up on the high ground between the rust so that her tires were just spinning) So we called up a third friend Judy, who was driving a sedan, and was therefore powerless to get our cars unstuck, but did take us back to her place to spend the night, that way her husband could help us out after work. So we all went back to her place and crashed, I had to call in absent from work for the day, while Lenna went to work, Judy's husband Robert and I took his heavy-duty pickup and dragged Lenna's car out of the ditch and my car out of the lake. We tested the dipstick and found that my engine was pretty much full of water (so it was a damn good thing I didn't try to start it, it would have cracked like...something that cracks easily) so we took off the oil cap and cylinder head casing to let the engine drain overnight and for the rest of the day. We'll come back tomorrow and flush the engine with oil again and see if it's ready to try and start. Meanwhile, we dragged Lenna car out of the ditch, I filled it up with gas and dropped it off at work for her, and I owe her a favor for all the trouble.
Well, we'll have to see how tomorrow goes, fingers crossed!
