Thoughts about a bowl

There is a stainless steel bowl in my cupboard. It was my mother's bowl, and as far back as I have memory, I have one of that bowl. It was her favorite and she used it for just about everything from mixing meatloaf to beating cake batter. She had other bowls of course, including a full set of Pyrex nesting bowls in yellow, green, red and blue. ( Read more... )

Interesting thoughts indeed. I also have a bowl that belonged to my mother, but I know why it came to me. Like my mother I really really enjoy popcorn, and this is a big red plastic bowl that was given to her by her brother. There's a design of popped popcorn around the rim, and the words Janice's popcorn bowl. When we were going through Mom's belongings the day after the funeral all my siblings agreed that this bowl had to pass on to me.

Oh, the stories that could be told by our inanimate objects!

this is a cool story! I'm excited for you that you have the chance to continue using something handed down from your mom!

Interesting essay, and one I totally connect to as I have many of Bonnie's inanimate objects. I passed a few of them on to my sister, big spooky face imprints with feathers, fur, very strange. She loves them. I have so many of B's things, some I have no real use for, like a pillow case with photos of a guy she had the hots for (an actor from Witchblade), but I just can't get rid of it. Someday I may, but for now, it sits in a drawer. I miss her so.
