Shamelessly stolened from bradcpu.

What three professional music videos have had the biggest influence on you as a vidder?

I hated choosing three...so I didn't! )

vidding talk, meme, film school

I think it's funny that I've seen maybe 7(?) people do this meme, and I still haven't seen anyone post any vid I've ever seen before. Guess that explains why I'm so out of sync with everyone creatively. lulz Even funnier since all of *my* influences are from the 90s too... just a very different 90s?

Or when I'm standing between those two mirrors, staring into the cold, hopeless depth of infinity, I like to say, "It's just like that Bjork music video!"
LOL, nobody does that feeling quite like Bjork. Except maybe Whitney. (There's a disturbing comparison)

One thing I've noticed - all of my favorite vidders who have done this meme have picked vids full of really disturbing imagery. Clearly we have problems.

90's have the best influences! But there are a lot of videos out there. Maybe you were watching a different hour of MTV/VH1 than I. ;)

It's funny but yeah, there are a lot disturbing images floating around this meme. I don't think my selection was super disturbing, more fucked up in a surrealstic manner? But I agree. We're all weirdos in one way or another!

Must watch these.

In other news you're forcing me to move the swan dress down on the list of 'thoughts I think when Bjork is mentioned'. That's mighty impressive. ;)

LOL! Clearly the swan dress didn't affect me as much as some. ;) Tho even I can see that Bjork excells in artistry, not in fashion.

I was still quite young when she wore it and it was oddly fascinating to see someone parading around in a swan like it wasn't unusual. lol

I've never seen that video for Ava Adore before! And now I'm all nostalgic for old skool Pumpkins. Come back, D'Arcy! Man, Billy Corgan's quite the little freak in here.

I've never seen Spark before either and it's glorious.

Heee! I love the Ava Adore vid sfm. Just everything about it is brilliant. And yeah, old skool Pumpkins are love. D'Arcy looks so fucking cool!!! I was so obsessed with her when I was wee. :P Billy was channeling his inner Nosferatu and it worked!

Ahhhh! Spark!!! That video changed me, man. Glorious is definitely the right word. So much love.

If it makes you feel any better, SOME film professors do show music videos because I watched Bjork's "Human Behaviour" in my first ever film theory class along with "Natura" and "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam. I'd never seen either the Tori Amos or Massive Attack vids, so thanks for making me watch them. Both are so powerful. Good choice with the Smashing Pumpkins, j'adore their videos!

Ok one day we will have to have a sit down where you tell me of your glorious film studies. Because I don't think we've had this conversation and I am intrigued!

Let's just say I wish I had such cool profs back at NYU. I just remember seeing a lot of Tarkovsky. Lots and lots of Tarkovsky. Oy. Btdubs, Human Behavior is a fabulous video. So many of Bjork's videos are brilliant. Jeremy was an important video back in the day, so I can see why it would be used as an example.

I'm so glad you got a chance to see the Tori and Massive Attack vids! I think those two would be a great for a compare/contrast paper about the two characters. They both make me want to know more! Which make them so powerful as videos. And yay to the Pumpkins! Agreed on their videos being ace!
