Fringey Recap 3x03 - The Plateau

Oct 14, 2010 20:27

One of these weeks I will post these things sooner...(Or will I???)

THOUGHTS:

This episode was that absolute perfect marriage of Writing/Acting/Directing which obviously leads to THIS. Srsly, I can watch the teaser over and over and over again, which is something because it doesn't even have Anna Torv so you know it gotta super speshul. And it is. The ramping of the film! The sound design for the effect! (Notice how when it happens on the bicycle messenger there's an added gravel noise which makes it all that more delicious!) Srsly awesome stuff.

And Milo was great as the weekly villain. (He seems like the kind of guy that can be brought back in a future ep.) I loved the Flowers for Algernon-esque story they went for with Milo, and the actor (he was the burned up deck hand in the BSG miniseries!) played mentally-challenged really well. (I feel like Astrid should be mentioned here as well, because I love the moments when she avoids eye contact with the others as she rambles on about numbers and probability or whatnot. It's great way to express the character's autism.) Obviously he had the hand twitch, but the way he walked, the way he moved his face...really great stuff.

Speaking of faces...
ANNA FUCKING TORV!

I don't know how the girl manages to slip and slide like that with Olivia-with-Altlivia's-memories-with-Olivia-breaking-through. It's just so PERFECT. The moment when she talks about Rachel...the MISE-EN-SCENE WITH THE MIRROR AND HER EYES!!! Holy balls, guys. This episode! AND THE MOTHERFUCKING END! Like not only visually amazeballs, it was also just BRILLIANT! Olivia beating the odds because she just didn't know the procedure (even though in the beginning of the episode you can clearly see her going for the Oxygen but never handling it as it was a false alarm), because she's not from this universe. *happy sigh*

Head!Peter. It is a thing and it is great. I also love that Walter was included in this personification of Olivia's subconscious breaking through. (Also, Walter has a wee fro now and it is adorbz.)

Now I am all for significant kissy kissy, but I wish that after Olivia had her moment with head!Peter, she would have said goodbye to Frank with a proper kiss on the lips. It seemed a little off that we haven't yet seen them as ~close~ as the real deal in Over There pt 1. My fear is that the writers just don't want to deal with the dubiousness of the consent for both parties. (But we'll see it in fic, AMIRITE? Yeehaw!)

Honestly, there's just so much that can be said about this episode. I'm not even going to go into Charlie and Lincoln and how Olivia interacted with them both. There's just too much awesome. TOO MUCH AWESOME! I love alt!verse so much!

SCREENCAP OF THE EP:

(I have grown quite fond of the wig on Anna. It's clearly quality and moves like Epic Hair so I am sold. Of course that's just a partial, shallow reason for why this cap is chosen. ;))

QUOTE OF THE EP:

"I'm still a scientist, Brandon. I just have a much larger laboratory." - Walternate

WORD OF THE EP:

AVOCADO

Oh and because ponderous77 decided to be fluffy and see ~filmed theater~ I won't be able to watch the new ep until late. So no spoilers for 3x04 in this here post pleeeease!
