Hmm... this theory makes me more interested to watch the show. I've seen almost all of the first episode but I haven't been feeling motivated enough to finish. And this theory explains some of the problems I was having with the way Gene Hunt and the others were handled.
Ah yes. Well I gotta say that the firs ep was pretty much dedicated to power shots of Gene Hunt and the guys. They stop doing that after that episode which makes everything so much better! Also, I fell in love with this show after episode 2, so you really should give that one a go. Just loads better then the first. The first is just kind of jarring and you have to get used to the environment which you're slapped with. Go the 80's!
I just stumbled across this entry and I had to comment! I really like this theory. And you've provided good evidence too.
4.) Episode 4 again. The big scary fantasy place where Alex is the little girl who hides in a box or trunk from the Scary Clown. What better image to represent captivity? Being trapped has been a theme throughout the show. (Like being trapped in a locked cell of the Loony Bin!)
When I first saw the episode I immediately thought of a coffin. I know it was little Alex hiding in it, but it made me think of Molly too.
Hey, no problem with the interrupting. Interrupt some more! I love to hear what other clues can be picked up. And I like yours. :) I hadn't thought of it that way. I just looked at it like a child going to her "safe place" which translated to the present would be Alex going to 1981.
I totally agree with your 'safe place' thinking, but still, my knee jerk was 'child coffin'. Maybe that makes me unwell! May I Friend you? We have a lot in common. I'm a rubbish poster, but a good commenter, and I'm eager to hear your reactions as Ashes to Ashes progresses.
