It is so hard, not to mention so lonely, to stand up for something you believe in all by yourself ( Read more... )

umm...i'm confused. what does standing up for what you believe in/finding someone who agrees with you have to do with losing your virginity?

LOL, like, I'll never find someone to marry who agrees with me or understands this about me, so yeah.

Well I agree that killing animals is not funny...and yes, I happen to eat meat, but that's because I find all other sources of protein disgusting, but I won't go into that. Anyway, I AGREE THAT MISTREATING AND KILLING RANDOM ANIMALS IS TERRIBLE TOO! You're not alone...

oh and you won't die a virgin. that's basically impossible

divya...

I don't think that people were laughing at the fact that animals were getting hurt. That's not really a funny situation any way you look at it. I think that people were laughing at the way Mr. Stock told the story... his gestures were outrageous. People are going to laugh AT HIM when he gets all crazy like that.

on a more positive note: you completely found someone today who agrees with you on an issue. Have you forgotten?? When you agreed to wear your button today you not only made a personal statement but also had a hundred other people saying (or not saying) the same thing.

that's powerful.

Yeah...I find that hard to believe when people say things like "Ooo let's watch it! *chucklegiggle*" and "Aaahh that's so funny!" Sigh.

But yes, I definately loved the button thing today. And yes, you are very right.

I adore you :-)

Keep standing up for what you believe in, and someone is going to find that absolutely attractive. You know how quirky and weird I am? OK yeah, if I can find someone who loves me despite my oddities (or perhaps because of them?), I know you definitely can! I think it's really inspiring to meet someone who sticks up for what they believe in, particularly when they go against the crowd.

And I'm pretty sure you will NOT die a virgin.

Div, I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who agrees that killing an animal, without reason is a good/funny thing. Just because some people are omnivores, does not mean they promote the unnecessary or inhumane butchering of animals. I respect your opinions, as I am sure you respect mine. Just remember that the one thing more important than standing up for what you believe in, is acknowledging the opposing opinions that exist and fully respecting them. In this way, we promote good-will and respect among our fellow wo/men and help take the next step towards a world of tolerance.

I do respect them. Respect is what I'm advocating in my original post. But when an entire roomful of people are laughing at a dying animal and the good majority are asking to see a video of the death, it's not easy to stand up for what I believe in, which is what I'm saying. You weren't there...if you were, you would have understood.

I love my friends, and respect them, don't I? I don't have one close vegetarian friend.
