6. Paranoia
As he sat down at Peter's desk to eat his lunch, Neal checked his phone. Mozzie had sent him a text message.
E UNABLE TO RESCHEL, WE'RE ON OUR OWN.-M

"Reschel?" Peter asked through a mouthful of sandwich.
"Don't talk with your mouth full of food, Peter, it's rude," Neal corrected his pint-size FBI handler before answering his question, "and 'reschel' is short for 'reschedule'."(1)
"Shouldn't it be 'resched'?" Peter wondered aloud.
"When it comes to Mozzie, I've learned not to question his methods of communication," Neal replied.
"Are you planning some kind of heist?"
"I wish I was," Neal admitted, "I asked Mozzie to call Elizabeth and find out when her plane was scheduled to land."
"But you already know when El's plane is going to land, I told you," Peter objected, "why would you need Mozzie to call her?"
Neal sighed.
"Because even though we assured her that that everything is alright, she still wants to make sure for herself that you are alright," he explained.
"Seeing is believing," Peter remarked.
The CI nodded.
"Something like that, yeah."

Mozzie was waiting for them outside the FBI building that evening.
"Someone's keeping Mrs. Suit out of the way," he informed Neal without preamble.
Neal cocked an eyebrow at his friend as he followed Mozzie into an alley nearby, Peter close behind him.
"Just because Elizabeth wasn't able to get on an earlier flight doesn't mean that there's something going on, Moz," he pointed out.
Mozzie shook his head.
"I know there's something going on, Neal, I checked for myself and found that there's an awful lot of dead people flying from California to New York this week."(2)
"Are you sure?" Peter asked.
"I'm sure, but I don't have any evidence that could stand up in a court of law, Suit," Mozzie replied, "and there's no way you'll be able to get a warrant for that information, not even if you claimed an anonymous source told you about this."
"Isn't it against the law to fly using an alias?" Neal asked.
"Only if you're intending to do something illegal," Peter replied.
"I think preventing people from purchasing tickets counts, Suit," Mozzie remarked.
Peter nodded.
"Yeah, it'd be fraud," he agreed, "but if Elizabeth was their real target, we should go after them for assaulting a federal agent."
Neal nodded.
"Yeah, this lady needs to stay in prison a lot longer than me," he agreed.
Peter opened his mouth, presumably to call the CI on his prison remark, but Neal placed a hand over the child's mouth, kindly gagging him. The youth scowled up at him.
"Don't," Neal ordered.
And that was when a figure dressed all in black stepped out from the shadows in front of them…
1. I can't spell…and apparently neither can Mozzie.
2. Mozzie, dead people don't like it when you tell them what they can and cannot do.
