I'm not the first to say it but...why do people insist on doing those "Hi, LJ...still there?' posts? Do LJers mosey on over to FB and go 'Hi, FB, still got ADD?'
This is usually done by people who have not posted in ages ...usually because they went with Facebook..and ignored old pals on Lj and now, realizing the difference between the two...they want to come back and reconnect with certain former friends..and it is their way of letting people know that

I'm afraid I rarely said 'Glad you're back' preferring to wait until they posted again. Then if they did I would take an interest. I actually had a FB account a long time before the exodus. I had to have it as part of my work because it is a PR platform. I hated it then and was bemused when people jumped that bandwagon so enthusiastically but so late. I have since deleted it because I am creeped out by the privacy issues. It also revealed that my friends seemed to have no inner lives and that all they had in common was banality. I don't actually think that altogether true. I think FB exacerbates it and I did very quickly begin to cringe at the neediness the medium revealed in people. That happens on LJ but sporadically. FB enshrines it

I dont do Gaga I dont do drag I dont do womens dress watching I dont do crying at movies (well a few times) and ..well.. I lean toward the masculine side of being gay
(not...I repeat not...for others reading this..that there is anything wrong with the effeminate side...but, its not me)
Well, I know that and me too. I do cry at films at times. The bit in 'The Railway Children' (the one directed by Lionel Jeffries) when her father returns and she runs to him always gets me messy.
You know, that you feel you have to say 'there is nothing wrong with the effeminate side' when you say you 'lean toward the masculine side of being gay' for the sake of others reading who might get offended is a pity. I would feel the need to stress exactly the same. But I always question why we have to.
They quite often do have a condescending tone. I'm really not too bothered about it. But there was a mini-flurry a short while back and it struck me how odd it was that people would write that they would no longer be posting here but they didn't want to lose touch with so kindly supplied FB (and other) alternatives where they could be followed. Ironic how social media is mostly about self- absorption.

Hmmm .....next time someone posts it, think of them having a more condescending tone.
"...are you still there?"
it probably won't bother you as much

In fact I tend to mentally read all those posts in a similar tone, actually...
