Yesterday I packed the kids up to the Social Security office, which thankfully is only about 5 minutes away, and finally changed my last name. I've been before to change it but had misplaced my driver's license sometime in between getting in the car and going into the building ( Read more... )

Haha, that's so cute about the girls and the video call. Amy has been to the Philippines, of course, since she has family there. I'm sure we'll go together someday, probably along with here dad and stepmom, since she is also from there (the man has a type!), and they visit regularly. Their retirement house (er, retirement mansion, to be honest) is there, so we'd have a sweet place to stay. Like any third world country, the class difference between people is simply more on display. It's sad, but it doesn't scare me. I'd love to scuba dive out there!

yeah my dad says the mall he went to was insane! like filthy rich people in there and all the top of the top stores like Rodeo Drive or something. and there are like crazy wealthy places, too, of course. It's just what you said, the gap between poor and rich is super wide and it's just out in the open there, not hidden away down back alleys like here in the States.
I think seeing all those kids would devastate me, I'm such a wuss now with kids, anything involving kids like that, even a movie, where before it wouldn't have affected me as much, now it just totally crushes me. I just can't imagine having my kid be in that place, and it hurts me to have to think of others in such a terrible situation. I just know I would see Lily and Ella's face in all those little kids, too.
I think it would be cool to visit, as long as you stay out of the trouble spots. You are so fun and bright and vibrant I think you would definitely be snatched up by kidnappers! They would know they could get an awesome ransom for you!!! lol
