I wish people would have the common courtesy to call and cancel an appointment instead of wasting my husband's valuable time. Any other place you miss an appt and don't call, you get charged a fee! Here my hub has to stay at work long past his quitting time, just for people who don't show up and don't even tell him they aren't coming. This happens every. single. day. So his two little kids fall asleep waiting to see him more often than not, all because people say they will show up and then don't. He's up and gone before they are even half awake and back as they are falling asleep. And for what. Time wasters.
It's really frustrating. For example, he was supposed to be able to get off around 5pm last night, but a lady called and made an appointment for 6:30, so of course he has to stay and see if he can make the deal. Otherwise he doesn't get paid. But she didn't show up, and didn't call to say she wasn't coming. And maybe some other customers who call to make an appointment with him at 6:40, get rescheduled for a different day, since he would have been busy with this woman, and of course they show up and get a different guy who sells them the car. Johnny works all day long to sell maybe a car or two. People come in and buy a car and need to come back the next day to finish up, so he has to go in on his day off to wrap things up with them. He devotes so much of his time and effort to his job only to have people treat him like a piece of dirt... because he sells cars?
Maybe car salesmen come off pushy to sell because they are desperate to make the fricking deal since jerkwads come in and yank them around all day and waste their time and act like they know everything about cars because they have the internet. And they are solely on commission, and don't make ANY money if they don't sell a car. And they don't even make that much per car, a few hundred tops. They are hungry for the sale because they have bills to pay and families to feed just like any other person.
You want to come look around and see what kind of car you want to buy? Cool. Don't be a dick about it, just be upfront with your intentions like a decent human being instead of playing all kinds of mindfuck games.
I'm tired of my husband wasting his time when he could be using that time with his kids who miss him so much, or even me, who barely gets to see him when he's around because I let the kids have any spare minutes they can get. I'm tired of him having unpredictable work schedules because people can't be bothered to pick up the phone - since NO ONE has a phone handy these days, apparently - to call or even send a stupid text message. Oh and guess what - when she doesn't show up and he finally gives up and heads home, as soon as he walks in the door he gets a call from work saying his lady has come in. It's really, utter bs.
It's not 1970 and they aren't throwing your car keys up on the roof of the building so you can't leave without buying the car anymore.
Times have changed, and I think it's long long past due for people's attitudes toward car salemen to change as well.
They are just working people, hard working people! Spending upwards of 70+ hours at work per week.
Treat them like it.
