Sexuality; Although Aerith shows interest only in males, she's the type of person who is more of a "love the person, not the gender" sort of deal. It's really up in the air. So going to say bisexual with a strong, strong preference to males.
Appearance; Aerith is a sweet-faced girl, with skin that is healthy and rosy around the cheeks, a small nose, thin lips, and well-arched eyebrows. She's slender but she has child-bearing hips; her breasts are small, but evident. She's got the hourglass-shape going on, and she tends to wear hip-hugging dresses (maybe to emphasize that). Her colors of choice are pinks, reds, and whites. She doesn't like dreary colors; it's rare to find Aerith in the same blue as a bruise, or black, or even the warm brown of something like chocolate. It simply isn't her, and she's way too feminine to abandon her pastel pallete anyways.
One of her most striking features are her eyes: an unmatched shade of green, with dark, long lashes. It stands out with her hair, which is brown; she tends to plait her hair into a high braid, tying the top with a pink ribbon and then simply using an elastic to keep it from unravelling. When unbraided, her hair reaches down to her waist in waves; done up, it reaches mid-back. Her bangs are rather unique; she sets aside two strands, which curl down to her collarbone, and the rest frames her face. She parts her bangs in the middle, and sometimes it curls around her cheekbones slightly, in wisps.
Personality; Aerith is, in general, a very sincere person with a strong heart and an undue kindness to most people. A flirt in some ways, Aerith likes to tease people she likes and talk, much more than she likes working and complaining. She takes most things in good humor, though prone to being sensitive and emotional, and she is most definitely compassionate. It is this last trait that seems to drive Aerith's every action: she tries to help others when she can, and when she can't, she keeps trying anyways. She's a nurturer and a very focused individual, with a lot of drive. It seems as if that every person Aerith meets, she cares for genuinely.
However, there are a few flaws to her person, and not everything is a cup of tea with Aerith. Because of her self-sacrificing personality, Aerith can be flighty with her ideas and proceed on with things no matter the consequences, at a risk to herself. She can be secretive, keeping information to herself to protect her friends, and because she wants to protect, Aerith can also hold in her most personal of emotions. Though mostly an open person, if she wants to prevent someone from worrying about her, Aerith will shoulder the responsibility on her own.
Her lack of foresight about the future can also be a bit unnerving; Aerith tries to live each moment to the fullest, and her willingness to play around and be cute and flirt and laugh and talk and generally not act as serious as she should at some points can be annoying; despite this, her attitude should not be interpreted as frivolous, because when the need comes, Aerith can be very serious. Her selflessness can be grating, interpreted as self-serving even, but Aerith regardless shows very little concern for what people think of her in that way.
Abilities/Strengths; Aerith has a green thumb, and most of the things she plants grow despite the soil conditions. Her nurturing personality could be considered a great strength for others to feed off of.
However, there's more to Aerith than plants and being a nice person. Consider the fact she is the last Cetra, and Aerith becomes one of the strongest white mages around. She is a gifted healer, and her limit breaks are very useful when it comes to recovering after combat. She also can manage to fend off a few enemies aided with a rod, but she's much more adept with magic (as mentioned, healing magic being her best bet).
Weaknesses; While her will is very strong, her body is not. The physically protected rather than the protector, the most Aerith can do is beat off attackers with a stick if she can't use magic. The girl's got a lot of fight in her, but that doesn't always translate into strength. Also, her tendency to keep negative feelings inside can have a detrimental effect on her own spirit, and it's not surprising that Aerith is often tired during very hard times, though she shows a smile to everyone.
Aerith can also be, as mentioned, a tad irreverent in times of need, but the truth is she just can't take too much seriousness at one time. It might be because of her personal burden, the fact she likes to keep her truest feelings closer to her than most things, but it can be a little annoying.
Notable Possessions; The Holy materia she keeps with her, of course! She's not quite sure what it does, but gee, it sure is pretty. :) And that pink hair ribbon, a present from Zack Fair from so long ago.
History; Aerith's life is far from typical.
When Professor Gast fell in love with Ifalna, he did not expect he would become father of the Last Cetra. A mere twenty or so days after she was born, Professor Hojo kidnapped Ifalna and Aerith for experimental purposes and killed Professor Gast, his colleague, in order to do so. From there on (seven or so years), Aerith and Ifalna were subject to multiple experiments administered by Shin-Ra and Hojo.
Luckily, Ifalna one day was able to make an escape. As they made their way out into the slums of Midgar, Ifalna (gravely injured during their daring escapade) gave Aerith to a young woman named Elmyra Gainsborough, who had been waiting for her soldier-husband, on return from the war. Ifalna passed on, and Elmyra took on Aerith as if she were her own; her husband never did return.
Aerith grew up relatively happy, despite being eventually located by Shin-Ra and being hotly pursued. Tseng of the Turks tried to convince her to accept her role and to consider joining Shin-Ra, but the idea of being the very last Ancient seemed heavy to a young Aerith, and the voices she heard (the voices of the dead floating in the lifestream) probably did not endear her to her heritage. Instead, she avoided being captured, choosing instead to sell flowers for one gil in the slums; after all, her flowers were the only things that could grow there.
She meets a very important person before the original adventure of Final Fantasy VII began: Zack Fair. Her first love and her first romance, Zack Fair teased his way into Aerith's heart. The two carry on a quite romantic relationship until Zack goes on his last mission (one that lasts four years), where Aerith writes him over eighty letters but never mails a single one. When he never returned home to her, she correctly guessed he had passed on but carried his memory with her.
And then Cloud Strife, Zack's friend, falls into her church and Aerith finds in him the same mannerisms she saw in Zack. However, upon getting to know him, Aerith becomes more attracted to finding out just who Cloud really is as their journey continues. It's not just Cloud that Aerith becomes close with: Tifa Lockhart, her rival-in-love becomes her close friend, as do the other members of AVALANCHE.
When Sephiroth tells the party of his plan to use Meteor, Cloud is manipulated into giving the black materia to him. Cloud then dreams of Aerith telling him that she knows she can stop him (or something similar to that), and he wakes up. This is where Aerith is picked up, en-route to the Forgotten Capital to pray for Holy to combat Meteor, and right before her climactic death.
