Summary: "Lavender is twenty-four and here she is again."

Lavender is twenty-four and here she is again. The dreary dark autumn day pressing solemnly against the bathroom window, the sneaky drafts of cold slithering in through the cracks, her own heavy-eyed and goose-bumped reflection in the mirror; it was the same yesterday and the day before, and as she’s standing there slipping her clothes off for a shower, she has to wonder if there was ever a different day. Was there ever a sun? Did she dream summer? Did she imagine staying up late with wine and sleeping in until the room grew too hot? She closes her eyes for a moment, heaving a sigh at those warm, slow days that seem so far away at this ungodly starkly cold colourless hour.

She steps inside the shower cabin, shivering as her bare feet touch its icy floor. “Shit,” she mutters, remembering her wand in the bedroom and the magical warmth it could bring - she can’t believe she forgot to take it with her to the bathroom again. “I feel repetitious,” she says out loud, trying to persuade the water to assume a bearable temperature.

The day that’s waiting for her outside of the shower cabin is all but appealing. She remembers with a groan how much paperwork and how many unanswered urgent floos still await her at the Ministry. And - oh fuck - it’s Wednesday, so that means she’ll have to go sip horribly bland tea at her parents’ and endure the fussing and the disapproving comments about her life for at least an hour until she can flee without feeling guilty.

“Merlin’s cock, I hate Wednesdays,” she whines, still shivering in the only barely lukewarm water.

“Surely they can’t be worse than Mondays?” a clear voice rings out from outside the shower, and with it the temperature of the water rises enjoyably.

“Ohhh,” Lavender sighs, reaching upward to the now hot water, “thanks for that. Well, at least on Monday the memories of the weekend are still fresh, whereas Wednesday is too in the middle of everything to hang onto anything nice.”

Parvati laughs and slips into the shower. Instantly Lavender knows she can’t have imagined the sun, because there it is - Parvati’s body, shining and vibrant and beautiful and graceful in the bathroom’s unforgiving light.

“You poor thing,” Parvati says grinning, “I’ll give you something nice to hang onto.”

And she kisses Lavender in the water’s stream, trailing her hands over her back, and suddenly Lavender is warm both inside and out.

“Okay, maybe it’s not that bad,” she whispers, leaning into her girlfriend’s body, her touch and her heat, her warm light in the dark morning.
