Hey ernunnos, if I'm left-handed and left eye dominant, what does it mean if I consistently shoot handguns of all makes and calibers low and to the right? What causes that, and how do I fix it?
All you have to do to shoot a handgun accurately is to keep the sights aligned while pressing the trigger. The trick to is that you've got to do them simultaneously, you've got to be able to multi-task. You're focusing on the trigger, trying to get it over with, and losing your sights at the last instant. Let the gun go off by itself.
One of my instructors would demonstrate the importance of just letting the shot go off by pulling the trigger for his students while they kept the sights aligned. He'd stick his finger into the trigger guard and slowly apply pressure. The shot would always be centered. Because the person on the sights was totally focused on those sights.
Have someone load your gun out of your sight, half the time with a live round, half the time with a snap cap. When there's a snap cap in, you'll be able to see the sights twist when you slam the trigger. Or you'll do it right because you don't expect it to go "bang", and your shots will be dead center.

You're trying to make it go off. Stop it. :-)
