The building was exquisite... I had to admit that. Marble flooring in some places... but it wasn't home. Home was the Hyperion; where we could help people. Here... yes, we could have all the resources we would ever need to help the hopeless, not to mention, eliminate our enemy, but... it wasn't what we were here for ( Read more... )

I was leaning against the wall, watching the others. Lorne and Fred were dancing. They seemed impressed with what they had seen. I wouldn't be surprised if they would take the offer. And Gunn looked even more...ready to take the leap. Personally, I didn't care about the firm, or what they had to offer.

My thoughts were still with Lilah.

"It meant something that you tried."

But it hadn't been good enough had it? She was still bound to Wolfram and Hart. Burning the contract obviously hadn't done one damn thing. I wasn't inclined to take up the offer. But if that would be the only way to find a 'get free' card for Lilah, I would.

And how ironic is that. For about a year she tried to sway me over to their side and never succeeded. But now that she was dead, I wanted to do anything in my power to give her some rest.

I glanced up as Angel came back into the lobby. Fred and Lorne kept on dancing, but my eyes darted toward Lilah. She looked smug, made me wonder what she was up to now. Angel better watch his back.

I could tell he was tempted, saw the gears churning in that thick skull of his. Weighing up the consequences of taking up the reins of such an establishment. See, that was the amusing irony of the situation. With Wolfram and Hart's resources Angel could achieve a lot of good, saving human lives and puppies on a far grander scale that he could with his pitiful agency. And yet, once he crossed that line, and had to work within the system or at least overhaul it from the inside out...well the slippery slope analogy applies. Angel was always teetering on the brink of going for a long skid, but this I have to say was the closest I'd seen him get for a while ( ... )

The whole thing was... amazing wasn't the word, there was not a word for this, maybe except wow, but I kept on saying it and it started to wear out. With that sort of resources we could, hell, we could do anything. Sky was the limit, and seeing the lab and all those things and ongoing experiments, and all, I could say that sky wasn't the limit anymore... nor was anything else ( ... )

The hot woman who had led me around had vanished, leaving me in the lobby with the others. I wondered where she had gone... she probably had other people to go and woo, other high up people to strut her feminine wiles to...

I shook my head, then looked at the others. Fred and Lorne were dancing around, and I guessed that they must have pulled something really nice to impress Lorne like this. They looked like they were ready to take whatever Wolfram and Hart had to offer...

And I had to admit I wasn't that far behind them. The woman (how had I never gotten her name? damn...) had shown me the White Room, and... damn. I grinned, and began to join the others-

When I caught sight of Angel's face. He looked emotionless, like usual, but he wasn't bouncing like the rest of us were. I knew the evil lawyer bitch had shown him some nice things, she would have had to. But... he didn't look impressed, or like he was going to tell us he had accepted ( ... )
